Krause doesn't go far to reach 'top level'
Coach made the tough choice to leave Monroe because of the potential he sees in Middletown.
COMMENT: What do you think of the choice for new MHS football coach?
Friday, April 25, 2008
MIDDLETOWN — Jason Krause was looking for an opportunity to take his career to the next level. He believes he found the perfect fit at Middletown High School.
Krause, the coach at Monroe the past four seasons, was announced Thursday, April 24, as Middletown's new coach, pending school board approval Monday.
Extras
"Anyone in any field wants to be at that top level," Krause said. "To coach in the (Greater Miami Conference) with the potential the Middletown community has, I don't know how you can do any better at a public school in the state of Ohio."
Middletown Athletic Director Gary Lebo believes Krause is equipped to turn around a program that has struggled in recent years. The Middies have had just five winning campaigns in the last 15 seasons and last reached the state playoffs in 1990.
"Our goal as an athletic department is to build championship programs," Lebo said. "We feel that Jason has the ability to take our program to the next level — to compete for GMC championships, make the playoffs and, hopefully, make a run at a state championship."
Krause had that kind of success at Monroe.
After going 2-8 in his first season, Krause guided the Hornets to three straight playoff berths, including two trips to the state semifinals in 2005 (Division IV) and 2007 (Division III). He was 35-15 in four seasons at Monroe.
Though it was difficult to leave such a successful program, Krause said the relationships he forged won't be forgotten.
"It was very tough to leave Monroe," Krause said. "You get so close with the kids and the people you work with. That's the hardest part (about leaving). But the thing you find in this profession is that you're going to make relationships with the new kids on your team.
"I'm still going to watch the Monroe kids. The first thing I'll look for on Friday nights after our games is the Monroe score. I still talk to DeShawn Wynn who I coached at Lockland and is now a Green Bay Packer. That's one of the things I love about coaching."
Krause was one of five finalists from a group of 50 applicants. Other finalists were Madison head coach Joel Lauer, Kenton head coach Mike Mauk, Harmony head coach David Pool and Hilliard Davidson junior varsity coach and Middie alumnus Chip Abele.
?We want kids to believe in each other, the coaches, the school and the community,? Krause said. ?I want them to know and believe that when they step on the field they have just as much right as the other team to make a play or win a football game. Play every play like it?s your last and relish the opportunity to play high school football because not everyone gets that chance. If those things fall in line, the sky?s the limit.?
Krause, 36, also was the head coach at Lockland (1997-2000) and Stebbins (2000-2004). He lives in Monroe with his wife, Denise, and their four children — Haley, 12, Hunter, 10, Hayden, 8, and Henlie, 2.

The “MIDDIES” got the best top notch coach that was avaliable at the time. Coach Krause is a great man, “FAMILY” man and probably most important, he is one of the most “HONEST” people you will ever meet! It seems like some of the Middie faithful have already given up on hte football team! As for the remarks that Mr. Pringle have said to the public, well he is not a very good example for any race! His remarks were so biased toward the white peopole in Middletown.

What a deal the Board of Education (Middletown) is getting. A coach with administrative credentials who is willing to work within the system. To the 2 board members who voted against - why not reveal your reasons if you truly believe it is not the correct decision. You were voted in to use your voice for those who can’t.

Wow what a poorly moderated little forum this is.
But at least 3 of the 5school board members knows a good thing when they see it.

I am sad to see Krause leave Monroe. But, am glad he went to Middletown. Middletown has had some great players over the years that haven’t went anywhere. Do to the lack of community and effort. If he can get the players, parents and past Middies to buy into his program they will win. He is making a lot of $ but, it is an investment. If he gets that program back to the playoffs the school will make 3 times that back. Think about all the blue and gold you see around town compared to 4 years ago.

Give me a break. Hire the best man, why does color matter you MUST hire the best or you short change the kids!!! Newell and his comments are funny!!! Good guy but is funny! Ronai has done a great job with the program-only winner besides track!! Did he not build the youth program? two straight winning seasons? What else do you want? Jerry Lucas to coach or Cris Carter? Back to reality people!

Last comment for Middletown..when you decide to choose a new basketball coach… let me point out that George Kennerly a gym teacher is probably your best choice…you are a small town with small ideas…”KISS”…Keep it Short and Simple”.. I heard you were considering Ronai’s son..well lets not forget that he’s on the bench with them now…WHAT WILL CHANGE! OH… also …if you all considered Swigart for and AD job..certainly a black coach has a chance….

Middletown… could have chosen the coach from Harmony Prep…or their own Dedrick Howard…It seems really interesting that with all of the great black players that made Middletown who they are…they have never considered a black coach..and for all of you Monroe fans…lets not forget that when they changed the school line to 14th and you all rec’d all those black players..your programs got better. But then this should be more about the kids than race..I wish the new coach well.

Middletown had an opportunity to show diversity in hiring a black coach…. I’m sure they thought they were doing their best…but let me point out that the basketball team sucks..and they have more talent than they ever had …but just like they picked this guy for football…they picked Ronai for basketball…and a guy that was on the list was Mike Mitchell from Cincinnati… they said he lacked experience…well he was an asst with Winton Woods..now Head Coach at Taft.Ohio Coach Runner up2

Justin why do you even open up your mouth? Everyone besides you knows what would happen if middletown played monroe. yeah you guys may win titles but you guys play people like dixie and valley view!! Like i said before Middletown beat valley view 60-6 in 2 quarters. the same team that beat you guys 56-10. Krause came here to get in a way more competitive division than you guys and maybe he wanted to coach WAY MORE ATHLETIC PLAYERS than you guys have out there.

Monroe has gone from the outhouse to nearly the penthouse and this season headed back to the outhouse. Osterman didn’t get a big college like he and his family THOUGHT he would get, simply because he wasn’t any more than a division 3 player that played in an easy league and basketball won’t be any different. Krause is lucky to get out of Monroe, he will lose games in the GMC but that league is many many times tougher than the SWBL. Congrats and the best of luck Jason Krause, you will do well.

Yes, Sounds like Middletown hired a $ 60K football coach with a teacher job as the supplemental. I’m sure that he is a fine man and probably a good hire, but Intervention Specialists (Special Ed. teachers) should not be the consolation prize that is offered when a job in their specialty is not available. Check the ODE website. He has a principal licence and an elem. ed licence, but NO INTERVENTION SPECIALIST LICENCE. Has even taken one class in it? Maybe he has.

After Coach Otten was fired, the job should’ve went to Chris Wells and the program wouldn’t be where it’s at now. There’s been so much talent at that school wasted because the organization don’t know their a** from a hole in the ground. Wells was a tough, defensive minded guy with a lot, yes, A LOT of passion for that program and they used him and gave it to Tudor and where did that lead? To what? 2 or 3 more coaches after that mistake? Exactly. The middies could’ve be back at the top!

whoever mentioned abell should read his resume. Abell has never been a head coach, not even a coordinator! hes just a line coach who has never run a program.

Krause said he would use Banks and Hunter to run the ball down peoples throats. He knows talent, he coached Deshawn Wynn for the green bay packers while he was at lockland high school. give this guys a chance. he is a winner.

Krause knew that beginnng this year Monroe’s talent level would drop quite a bit beginning this season and for the nexr few seasons. He had the chance to cut’n run and he did, since the Middie job is in such a better and tougher league to get more experience. He is good enough that Middletown won’t be his last stop, I would expect him to hit the college level in a few years. I am happy to see him leave Monroe and head to greener and better pastures. Middletown sends players to bigger schools

Why is an elementary certifited teacher being hired as an intervention specialist for high school…how is he qualified? Why is he getting paid more than most high school certified teachers? Was the job as intervention specialist offered to the certified staff first? Academics need to be priority, not just sports.

THIS COACH HAS SHOWN HE CAN WIN. THE IMPORTANT THING NOW IS HIS COMMITMENT TO STAY AND SHOW CONTINUITY IN THE PROGRAM. THE COMMUNITY HAS TO BE POSITIVE AND GIVE HIM THE SUPPORT HE WILL NEED.ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS. I WISH HIM, AS A FORMER MIDDIE THE BEST. GO MIDDIES!

Way to go Middletown! He will give us four years like he has given every other coaching job he has had. Stability and long term commitments??? Did Dr. Price or anyone look at his resume? I hope isnt personal as usual with Dr. Lolli the new superintendent or Monroe-we seem to pick up those coaches and staff for personal vindettas. What was wrong with Chip Abele? Middle grad, understands the middie magic, and bleeds purple and white! Great coach too. Wait til the paint wears off. Shameful.
