Central Michigan holds off Miami

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Central Michigan defeated the Miami RedHawks 8-4 Saturday, April 12, in a Mid-American Conference baseball game.

The RedHawks (9-22, 3-8 MAC) rallied for two runs in the ninth inning but fell short after bringing the potential tying run to the plate.

Tommy Nurre went 3-for-5 with a home run and a double for the RedHawks.

Adam Eaton was 2-for-5 with an RBI, and Jordan Petraitis was 2-for-5 with a double.

Brendan Emmett drove in two runs for CMU (14-17, 4-7).

The second game of Saturday's scheduled doubleheader was pushed back to 1 p.m. today.

MUH overwhelms Kentucky State

HAMILTON — The Miami University Hamilton baseball team erupted for 32 runs on 35 hits Friday and went on to beat Kentucky State 32-6 at Foundation Field.

Hitting leaders for the Harriers were Curtis Blank, 5-for-5 with a home run, two triples, two doubles and eight RBIs; Bryan Fusco, 3-for-3; Tyler Kilpatrick, 2-for-2 with a home run, double and four RBIs; Justin Flynn, 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs; Anson Hall, 5-for-6 with a home run, two doubles and two RBIs; and Adam Farwick, 5-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Other standouts were Matt Mayes, 4-for-6 with a double and RBI; Corey Murden, 4-for-6 with five RBIs; Steve Adams, 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs; and Damien Hannah, 1-for-2 with a home run.

MUH improved to 17-9. Kentucky State fell to 2-29.

MUH tennis teams beat MUM, then fall

WILBERFORCE — The Miami University Hamilton women's tennis team lost to Central State 6-1 Saturday. The lone winner for the Harriers (1-1) was No. 5 singles player Sara Hopfensperger.

The MUH men (1-2) lost to Central State 6-2. Winners for the Harriers were Mat Hoffman at No. 1 singles, Andy Pickering at No. 2 singles and Hoffman and Pickering at first doubles.

On Friday, the Miami Hamilton women defeated Miami Middletown 8-1 at Riverside Athletic Club, and the MUH men defeated MUM 7-2.
