The McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital Trust has announced that Cincinnati Hematology-Oncology, Inc. has made a major gift of $50,000 to the Oncology Clinic Expansion Project at the hospital.
The gift from the group practice of oncologists who staff the busy clinic was given in honor of their recently retired co-founder and past president, Dr. Wilfried Leder. The hospital will name the new clinic in his honor.
"We are so pleased that CHO has made this generous gift as a way of honoring Dr. Leder for his pioneering work with our oncology clinic," said Bryan Hehemann, CEO of McCullough-Hyde. "The new oncology clinic will be named The Wilfried Leder Oncology Center, a fitting tribute to the man who started our clinic 26 years ago in a small space across from the Emergency Department."
Grace Kendrick, the practice manager for the CHO group, said, "Our gift is not only honoring Dr. Leder for his role in starting and growing the clinic for 26 years, but is also our way of maintaining and expanding first-rate oncology care at the hospital with the new Oncology Clinic. We hope our gift will inspire others to give, to make sure the new Oncology Clinic fundraising project reaches its goal."
Julie Nickell, development director for the hospital trust, said, "We are delighted to receive this generous gift from CHO, because it puts us within $55,000 of reaching our project fundraising goal of $725,000. We need to raise the remaining funds to ensure that clinic construction can be finished in the spring of 2009. McCullough Hyde greatly appreciates CHO's support of the hospital, the oncology clinic and the care CHO provides to the community. We are hopeful that CHO's recent gift will inspire the community to support McCullough Hyde and the new Oncology Center."
Nickell said that the hospital hopes to end its two-year campaign this month by reaching its goal of $725,000 to expand its cramped, 26 year-old oncology clinic into a spacious 3,000 square foot space in the current Wellness Center.
Construction began in early November, with completion expected for spring of 2009. The new Wilfried Leder Oncology Center will offer privacy, space for families and better access for oncology patients.
Donors may send or drop off their gifts to MHMH Trust, 21 Lynn Ave. Suite 107, Oxford, Ohio 45056 or give online at www.mhmh.org/dev.htm.
