BOYS SOCCER

COLERAIN 2, HAMILTON 0: Big Blue lost their Greater Miami Conference opener Thursday evening to fall to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the league, while the Cardinals improved to 1-2, 1-0 GMC. HHS returns to action Tuesday at home against Middletown.

LAKOTA EAST 2, MIDDLETOWN 1: The Middies' lone goal Thursday night was scored by Austin Majors. No other details were reported.

FAIRFIELD 2, LAKOTA WEST 2: The Indians and Firebirds battled to a tie Thursday evening at Fairfield in the Greater Miami Conference opener for both teams. Jerry Solorio and Joel Ritz scored for FHS (3-1-2, 0-0-1 GMC), while West got its scores from Robert Bowling and John Wittich. Both keepers played well, with West's Robert Hasselfeld recording eight saves and Fairfield's Taylor Spradling notching seven.

TALAWANDA 5, MOUNT HEALTHY 0: Chris Bailer recorded a hat trick to lead the Braves to their first victory of the year Thursday evening. In addition to Bailer's three goals, Talawanda (1-3-2 overall, 1-0 Fort Ancient Valley Conference Scarlet Division) got scores from Cody Wilhelm and Erik Humfleet. Phillip Barr-Beare added a pair of assists, and Ethan Bartlett and Wilhelm each had one. Kevin Jewett recorded the shutout in goal.

GIRLS SOCCER

CINCINNATI CHRISTIAN 2, TROTWOOD-MADISON 1: Krista Ayers and Michelle Baab each scored goals to lead the Cougars to the home victory Thursday evening. Breanna Anderson added an assist for Cincinnati Christian, which improved to 2-2. The Cougars return to action Saturday at home against Reading.

LAKOTA EAST 4, MIDDLETOWN 1: The Thunderhawks got goals from Megan Scheitlin, Andi Martin, Sammi Miller and Abbey Schable to win their Greater Miami Conference opener Thursday night. The Middies' goal came from Alex Flesher, with an assist from Michelle Brownlee. East improved to 2-2-1, 1-0 GMC, while Middletown fell to 2-2-1, 0-1 GMC. The Thunderhawks return to action Tuesday at Fairfield.

COLERAIN 4, HAMILTON 0: Big Blue lost their Greater Miami Conference opener Thursday evening at HHS. Amanda Boyd had nine saves in goal for HHS, which fell to 0-2-2 overall and 0-1 in the GMC. Hamilton returns to action Tuesday at Middletown.

MONROE 3, WAYNESVILLE 0: The Hornets ran their record to 5-1 Thursday evening with the home victory. Monroe got goals from Maggie Hinkle, Megan Sprague and Carley Williams, with Hinkle also adding an assist. Ragan Taulbee had four saves in goal for the shutout. Waynesville fell to 5-2. The Hornets return to action Saturday at home against Badin.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

TALAWANDA 3, MOUNT HEALTHY 1: The Braves won 25-21, 25-22, 22-25, 25-6 Thursday night behind strong play from Angie Farthing (six digs), Katie Smith (two aces, seven digs), Lydia Dysart (four kills, two blocks, one ace), Chloe Hansel (20 assists, three digs) and Casey Baxter-Wilms (seven kills, five digs, three blocks). The win moved THS to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in the Fort Ancient Valley Conference Scarlet Division.

MCNICHOLAS 3, BADIN 0: The Rockets blanked the Rams 25-12, 25-15, 25-15 Thursday evening, dropping Badin to 1-5.

MADISON 3, DIXIE 0: The Mohawks won 25-17, 25-17, 25-21 Thursday evening behind strong play from Ally Malott four kills, five blocks, one ace), Brittney Sorrell (four kills, one ace), Sarah Chaney (17 kills, two blocks, two aces) and Nikki Nagy (21 assists). The win moves Madison to 4-3 overall and 3-0 in the Southwestern Ohio Buckeye League Buckeye Division. The Mohawks return to action Saturday with a quad match at Valley View.

LAKOTA EAST 3, MIDDLETOWN 0: The Thunderhawks won 25-8, 25-17, 25-16 Thursday behind strong play from Liz Trentman (eight kills), Stephanie Neltner (13 assists) and Lindsay Landers (six aces). The Middies were led by Amie Rossi (seven kills) and Jessie Greer (five kills). The victory upped East's record to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the Greater Miami Conference. The Middies slipped to 4-1, 0-1. East returns to action Saturday at Harrison.

LAKOTA WEST 3, FAIRFIELD 1: The Indians lost 25-17, 25-15, 13-25, 25-16 Thursday night despite strong play from Karsen Cronin (17 kills, one block, nine digs) Jenni Johnson (14 kills, nine digs), Christi Grimes (36 assists, one ace, seven digs). Fairfield (1-3 overall, 0-1 Greater Miami Conference) returns to action Saturday in a tri-match with Badin and Lebanon.

WAYNESVILLE 3, MONROE 0: The Hornets fell 25-16, 25-15, 25-20 Thursday night despite strong play from Chelsea Stickelman (three kills, one ace, 13 digs, one block and two assists), Ashley Cooper (eight kills, five aces, five digs, three blocks), Kaitlynn Nall (three kills, one ace, one dig), Beth McGuire (two digs, eight assists), Rachel Chapman (four kills, three digs) and Reegan Reece (two kills, two aces, three blocks). Monroe (1-6) returns to action Monday at home against Preble Shawnee.

BOYS GOLF

BADIN WINS TRI-MATCH: Senior Chad Beatty earned his fifth medalist honor of the year Thursday with a 2-under-par 34 that also lowered his season average to 36.8, which is tops in Greater Cincinnati among Division II golfers. Jake Benzing added a 1-under 35 to help the Rams improve to 7-4. East, which was led by John Kuhlman's 36, moved to 7-2. And Anderson slipped to 5-4. Badin returns to action today in the third round of the four-round Greater Catholic League Central Division tournament. The Rams have an 8-stroke lead on McNicholas heading into today's action.

TALAWANDA WINS TRI-MATCH: The Braves scored 166 to beat Hamilton (168) and Harrison (174) Thursday at Hueston Woods. Willy Davidge shot a 2-over 38 to lead Talawanda, which improved to 8-1. Big Blue slipped to 2-6.

WAYNESVILLE 170, MADISON 200: The Mohawks lost the home match Thursday. Leading the Mohawks were Dalton Esselman (46), Brandon Creekbaum (51) and Andy Clements (51). Clements had a double-eagle 2 on the par five No. 6 hole.

MONROE 168, DAYTON NORTHRIDGE 201: Brandon Stanton and Kyle Howard shared medalist honors with rounds of 3-over 39 on the Hawk nine at Kitty Hawk Golf Course. The win raised the Hornets' record to 8-3 overall and 3-2 in the Southwestern Ohio Buckeye League Southwest Division. Monroe returns to action Saturday at the Majestic Springs Invitational.

EDGEWOOD 171, CARLISLE 202: Jon George shot 37 to earn medalist honors in leading Edgewood to a nonleague win over Carlisle on Wednesday at Weatherwax Golf Course. The win improved the Cougars to 7-3 in dual matches. Edgewood will host Monroe Monday at Weatherwax.

MONROE 6, WAYNESVILLE 3: The Hornets got two goals from Patrick Black and one each from Nick Streibick, Patrick Black, Nick Braden, Kyle Cox and Ruckman in Thursday night's win. Assists were provided by Braden (two), Scott Mann (two) and Black.

GIRLS GOLF

HAMILTON 199, PRINCETON 203: Samantha Boyer earned medalist honors with a 1-over 37 on the front nine at Glenview as Big Blue improved to 2-9. HHS returns to action Tuesday at Weatherwax against Middletown.

MASON 151, FAIRFIELD 214: Lindsey Mapes led the Indians with a 46 Thursday afternoon on the front nine at Walden Ponds.
