BASEBALL

SECTIONAL GAMES POSTPONED: Two Division I sectional contests were postponed Monday, May 12, due to poor field conditions and moved to today. Fairfield will travel to Edgewood and Talawanda visits Western Brown at 4:30 p.m.

BADIN 8, WYOMING 6: Seniors Dan Strittholt, Zack Kramer, Dave Chaney and Nate Hubbard did the pitching Monday for the host Rams on Senior Night, with Strittholt getting the win and Hubbard earning the save. It was the 14th consecutive victory for Badin, which improved to 20-6. Nate Jackson had three hits and scored twice for the Rams, while Eric Gerbus and Tony Cassano both drove in two runs. Corey Van Natta chipped in two hits and two runs, Zach Toerner had an RBI double, Hubbard was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Dan Berens collected two hits. Wyoming fell to 9-16. Badin begins Division III sectional play at home Wednesday against East Clinton.

ST. XAVIER 9, ROSS 2: A.J. Kruzel had a two-run single Monday for the visiting Rams, who fell to 15-10. The Bombers are 18-6. Ross will open Division II sectional play at home Thursday, facing either Bellbrook or Wilmington.

MADISON 7, TRI-COUNTY NORTH 3: Mike Roe homered, doubled and drove in three runs Monday for the visiting Mohawks, who improved to 16-7. Steve Johnson went 4-for-4 with a double an RBI for Madison, while Zach Hembree had a double and an RBI, and Johnny Burley, Andy McCoppin and Jake Thiem all added two hits. Tri-County North is 17-6. The Mohawks will begin Division III sectional action at home Wednesday against Dayton Christian.

SOFTBALL

EDGEWOOD 7, NEW CARLISLE TECUMSEH 2: Sara Pearson fired a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts and also went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs for the host Cougars, who won their Division I sectional opener Monday. Carley Wright had three hits for Edgewood (15-8), and Jordan Rice added a pair of hits. Tecumseh fell to 6-15. The seventh-seeded Cougars visit No. 4 Kettering Fairmont on Wednesday.

LAKOTA WEST 13, HUGHES 0: The Firebirds began Division I sectional action with a run-rule triumph Monday at Lakota East. Randi Bryan earned the win for West (14-12), and Melanie Bryan had two hits and an RBI. The Firebirds will play in a sectional final Friday at Kings, facing either Glen Este or Mother of Mercy.

MADISON 12, DAYTON CHRISTIAN 0: Hannah Kendrick pitched a one-hitter with nine strikeouts as the Mohawks breezed to a run-rule victory in their Division III sectional opener Monday at Waynesville. MacKenzie Shouse led the offense, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Sarah Blevins also drove in two runs and Kendrick had one RBI for the Mohawks, who won their seventh straight to improve to 24-2. Dayton Christian slipped to 8-5. Madison will host Jamestown Greeneview on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

ROGER BACON 3, FAIRFIELD 0: The host Indians fell to 6-9 with Monday's 25-13, 25-23, 25-23 defeat. Leading Fairfield were Jay Stempfley (18 assists, three digs), Scott Vanover (eight kills, six digs), Richie Fullam (five kills, three blocks) and Jay Bauer (seven kills, six blocks). The Indians host unbeaten Elder on Wednesday.

BOYS TENNIS

BADIN DOUBLES UNIT ADVANCES: Badin's first doubles team of Danny Bokeno and David Pohlman won two matches at Princeton Monday to advance to the Division II sectional semifinals, also earning a berth in next week's district tournament at Centerville. Bokeno and Pohlman cruised to wins over units from Monroe and Franklin, losing a total of three games. The sectional semifinals are slated for 1 p.m. Thursday at Princeton. Also for the Rams, Ian Heflin and Zach Marcum went 1-1 at second doubles, Xander Reynolds and Ryan Boyd were also 1-1 in singles, and Daniel Lipps dropped his first singles match.

WILDCATS EARN DISTRICT BERTHS: Franklin had three players earn Division II district tournament berths Monday at Princeton, and a fourth may follow. The Wildcats' Anthony Hudson won three straight singles matches to advance to the sectional semifinals, and Franklin's Mike Earach and Curtis Roberts also won three matches to make it to the final four in doubles. The Wildcats' James Pretorius will meet Fenwick's Patrick Connaughton for a district singles berth Wednesday.
