BASEBALL

MASON 13, HAMILTON 1: Host Big Blue only managed a first-inning run in dropping a six-inning decision Tuesday, May 6. Austin LeMaster was 2-for-2 with a double for HHS, which fell to 12-13, 8-9 in the Greater Miami Conference. The Comets are 15-7, 12-5. Hamilton travels to Princeton today.

DIXIE 7, MONROE 4: Trailing 6-4 in the top of the sixth inning, Monroe loaded the bases with no outs, but could not score and ended up on the short end of a Southwestern Buckeye League Buckeye Division game at Dixie on Tuesday. Cody Ridinger was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and J.C. Kellis also knocked in a run. Monroe (16-6, 9-2 SWBL Buckeye) must win at Carlisle on Friday to share the league championship with the Indians. On Monday, Monroe defeated Mars Hill Academy 24-4.

CINCINNATI CHRISTIAN 10, MIDDLETOWN CHRISTIAN 1: Chris Gortner belted two hits, including a triple, and Steve Fox also had two hits, including a triple, with two RBIs to lead the Cougars to Tuesday's win. Cincinnati Christian (15-6) scored seven runs in the third on four walks, a Middletown Christian error and three hits. Brian Kirschbaum pitched the win, and Caleb Hollandsworth retired MCS (10-9) in order in the seventh. MCS's Jerad Schuler had all three of the Eagles' hits. He went 3-for-3 with a triple and the only run scored. Cincinnati Christian plays Thursday at Madeira.

FAIRFIELD 11, SYCAMORE 2: Mike Haney went 3-for-5 with two home runs, a double and four RBIs to lead the Indians to Tuesday's win. Mitchell Durbin (2-for-3) and Daniel Constable (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) had a pair of hits each, and Corey Holt went 3-for-4 with a triple and another RBI. Fairfield is now 8-14, 4-13 in the Greater Miami Conference, and will host Oak Hills at 4:30 p.m. today as part of Senior Day. Sycamore falls to 8-15, 4-13 GMC.

TALAWANDA 5, FENWICK 2: The Braves (16-8) outhit Fenwick 11-4 in Tuesday's win. Tyler Richardson went 3-for-3 with one RBI, and Josh Hogg hit a pair of doubles to drive in two other runs for Talawanda. Chris Rudolf clouted his second home run of the season as part of a 2-for-2, two-RBI day for the Falcons. Fenwick will host Alter in a makeup game at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

FRANKLIN 12, MADISON 4: Franklin's Jordan Pergrem won his second game of the season Tuesday as the Wildcats knocked off host Madison in a Southwestern Buckeye League crossover game. Pergrem helped his own cause by going 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs. Macklin Bray also knocked in a pair of runs, and Tyler Simpson and Kyle Wainscott each had two hits for Franklin (12-9). Madison (13-7) was led by Steve Johnson, who had a home run and three RBIs.

SOFTBALL

MIDDLETOWN 2, COLERAIN 1: The host Middies pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the season Tuesday, defeating the Division I top seed from the Cincinnati area. Kayla Wyrick doubled in Brittny Loveless with the first Middletown run in the first inning. Loveless got on with a single in the sixth, reached second on a bunt, then Brianna Lipscomb smacked a drive up the middle to score Loveless with what became the winning run. Loveless pitched the first three innings, giving up a Cardinal run and a hit. Then Wyrick took over in the fourth and limited Colerain (16-3, 14-2 Greater Miami Conference) to one hit while striking out four Cards batters. Colerain's Emily Schwaeble took the loss, despite striking out eight Middies. Middletown is now 9-13, 5-12 GMC, and is tentatively scheduled to play Thursday at Sycamore.

GLEN ESTE 1, EDGEWOOD 0: Back-to-back doubles in the first inning gave Glen Este the only run of Tuesday's game. In a battle of the area's top strikeout pitchers, Glen Este's Kelly Benhase struck out 11 Cougars for 214 strikeouts on the season. Edgewood's Sara Pearson fanned nine Glen Este batters to raise her season total to 250.

LAKOTA WEST 10, PRINCETON 0 (5 innings): Hannah Hess belted a three-run, inside-the-park home run in the third inning, Chelsea Sherman had three hits, including a pair of doubles, to drive in three runs, and Megan Barrett also had a pair of hits in the win. West (12-11) returns to Greater Miami Conference action today when the Firebirds play at Fairfield.

DIXIE 4, MONROE 3: The host Greyhounds scored one run in the bottom of the eighth inning to upend Monroe on Tuesday. Tamara Davis and Lauren Turner each tripled for Monroe, and Laura Cain led the Hornets by going 3-for-4 at the plate.

MONROE 14, DAYTON CHRISTIAN 2: The host Hornets plated nine runs in the bottom of the first inning to set the tone of Monday's nonleague game with Dayton Christian. Nikki Tolson tossed the win to raise her record to 16-2.

BADIN 3, DAYTON CARROLL 1: Badin clinched second place in the Girls Greater Cincinnati League Grey Division on Tuesday with its win over host Carroll. Stacie Weber was the winning pitcher, and Kaitlyn Spradling led the offense with an RBI and a run scored. The Rams (12-12, 11-3 GGCL Grey) will travel to Reading today.

ROSS 8, SPRINGBORO 1: Host Ross broke open a 4-1 contest with four more runs in the fourth inning to claim Tuesday's nonleague win. Brittany Fernandez earned the pitching win to up her season record to 14-2. Rachael Connaughton (2-for-4, double, two RBIs), Kaitlyn Strunk (2-for-3, two triples, three RBIs), Danielle Wilson (double, two RBIs), Anna Walters (double), K.J. Huff (two runs) contributed to the win. Ross is now 18-4 and will play host to Anderson at 4:30 p.m. today. Springboro falls to 8-16.

FAIRFIELD 4, HARRISON 1: Jaisa Fox fanned 10 Harrison batters to earn the pitching win on Tuesday. Megan Lockhart and Jennifer Treglia each went 2-for-4. Fox drove in two runs, and Erin Coyle doubled in the contest. Fairfield is now 20-4. Harrison falls to 19-5.

VOLLEYBALL

DAYTON CARROLL 3, FENWICK 1: Host Carroll claimed a Greater Catholic League win in four games over Fenwick on Tuesday in Dayton. The Patriots won 26-24, 25-17, 15-25, 25-15. Fenwick is now 4-13. The Falcons will return to action Thursday when they'll play at Edgewood.

EDGEWOOD 3, MIDDLETOWN 0:

Edgewood defeated Middletown 25-23, 25-18, 25-19 Tuesday to improve to 5-13 on the season. Bryce Bednorz led the Cougars with 12 kills, and Corey Walker also had 18 assists. Kenyon Grand and Zach Bush also led the team with strong hitting and blocking. Edgewood will host Fenwick on Thursday.
