Graham soccer star chasing new goals
Leah Geuy rewrites the school's record book in two hurdle events and sets her sights on state meet.

ST. PARIS — Track has never been Leah Geuy's favorite sport.
The Graham senior is a soccer player, and she won't tell you any differently. In fact, she already has plans to play at Urbana University next fall.

Geuy set school records in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles at the Shawnee Quad meet on Monday, April 21.
"It was exhilarating," Geuy said. "I had been talking about breaking the records, but I didn't expect to get them in one night. It felt great."
Geuy ran the 300 hurdles in 47.18 seconds, breaking the old school mark of 47.4 set by Amanda Domigan in 1987. In the 100 hurdles, she ran a 15.60, beating Hope McClure's 1991 time of 15.7.
Of course, there was one negative that came out of Monday's meet. Geuy lost the 100 hurdles to South senior Cassandra Lloyd by 24 hundredths of a second.
"It was bittersweet because it was the first time I got beat," Geuy said, "but it pushed me to run better."
Geuy's ultimate goal is the Division II state track meet. She finished fifth at the D-II regionals last season in the 100 hurdles and is primed to make a run at Columbus.
"She's very determined this year, and she wants to make it happen," said Graham girls track coach Alexis Fourman.
Geuy knows what it will take to get there.
"I've worked a lot harder than I ever have in the past three years, and it's showing," she said.
