VANDALIA — There weren't any secrets heading into Greenon's Division II girls basketball first-round sectional matchup with Benjamin Logan on Wednesday.
The Central Buckeye Conference Mad River Division champion Raiders had seen Greenon twice in the regular season. Their game plan was simple — stop Greenon sophomore Allie Turner, who came into the game averaging 25.4 points per game.
Benjamin Logan held Greenon to eight points in the second and third quarters en route to a 46-23 victory at Vandalia Butler's Student Activity Center.
Greenon ends its season 8-13.
Aimee Cummins had a game-high 15 points for the fourth-seeded Raiders (16-5), who advance to play fifth-seeded Urbana (13-7) in the second round. Cummins also guarded Turner, holding her to a team-high 12 points.
"That's a senior stepping up in a tournament game," said Greenon coach Gary Falkenbach. "(Cummins) is a good player. They did a nice job helping out on her."
Benjamin Logan jumped out to a 10-7 lead after the first quarter and extended the margin to 20-13 with three minutes remaining in the second.
From that point, they would hold the Knights scoreless until Brittany Parker's layup with 58 seconds remaining in the third quarter. The Raiders led 35-15 after three quarters.
"It seemed like we were stuck on 13 forever," Falkenbach said. "I'm proud of my girls. They played hard, and they didn't quit."
Greenon had several players get into foul trouble early in the game, including second-leading scorer Kyra Dorney.
The Knights didn't shoot a single free throw in the game, while the Raiders seemingly hit everything.
"They shot the ball in the basket," Falkenbach said, "and they got some nice points from their post players."
Falkenbach, who took over the Knights program late last summer, is already looking forward to next season. Greenon only graduates two seniors.
"We're young," Falkenbach said. "We'll have a long summer. It was just one of those nights where the ball doesn't bounce your way."
