RedHawks earn academic honors
CLEVELAND — Michael Veatch of Middletown was among 10 Miami University athletes from baseball and men's and women's track named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference teams, the MAC announced Wednesday, June 11.

The baseball team included two Miami seniors, second baseman Evan Armitage (mechanical engineering, 3.70 grade-point average) and pitcher Matt Erwood (zoology, 3.86 GPA).
Recipients in men's track were senior Dan Beach (finance, 3.45 GPA), junior distance runner Pat Sovacool (zoology, 3.60 GPA), senior distance runner Veatch (physical education, 3.49 GPA), sophomore distance runner Paul Krebs (zoology, 3.95 GPA), junior distance runner Kevin Silver (accountancy and finance, 3.79 GPA) and senior pole vaulter Jake Kuhner (physical education, 3.20 GPA).
Recipients in women's track were senior high jumper Kristina Bolterstein (environmental science and zoology, 3.64 GPA) and junior distance runner Rebekah Hollander (finance and Spanish, 3.54 GPA).
Sovacool qualifies for NCAA finals
DES MOINES, Iowa — Miami University junior Pat Sovacool qualified for the finals on the 5,000-meter run by finishing with the seventh-best time in the preliminaries Wednesday, June 11, at the NCAA track and field national championships.
Sovacool finished in 14 minutes, 15.69 seconds. The finals are scheduled for Friday.
Another Miami junior, Kevin Dwyer ended the first day of the decathlon in 21st place.
Buckeyes add to '09 recruiting class
COLUMBUS — Defensive lineman Adam Bellamy became Ohio State's 17th verbal commitment for the football class of 2009. Bellamy announced his decision on Tuesday, June 10.
The 6-foot-4, 275-pound Bellamy — a senior-to-be at Aurora High School — is rated as the 18th-best prospect in Ohio. He chose OSU over offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Boston College, West Virginia and Kansas.
