Nobody wants to get cut

By Josh Betts

Nobody wants to get cut.

I don't care if it is the Vandalia High School freshman basketball team or if it is the Indianapolis Colts, no athlete wants to be told he is not good enough.

Extras

Right now every football fan is obsessed with who is going to be cut.Even those of us on rosters pay attention to moves other teams make. We do this for a variety of reasons.

I have former teammates that I played with at Miami who are trying to make other teams. There are guys I played with at the Hula Bowl who are attempting to hook on with other teams. I also see what quarterbacks are released by other teams.

As a result of these circumstances, I follow the roster moves very closely.

I also pay close attention to my situation with the Colts. Friends, family, and former teammates call me to see how things are going. I tell everybody the same thing - I'm doing my best to show the staff I belong on the team.

The pressure to make the roster is pretty intense. Not just for me, but for everybody not assured of a roster spot. It is a fine line between trying hard and trying to do too much.

I don't know if I'm going to make the team. But one thing I do know for sure is I'll do everything I can to make the team. I want to make the team and I have to continue to show the coaching staff I belong on the team.

Also, good luck this on Thursday night to Miami as they open their season vs. Northwestern at Yager Stadium. Everyone show their support and come out and watch the Redhawks and also honor one of the greatest players and coaches in Miami history in a tribute to Randy Walker.
