First game, but no debut

Tuesday, August 15, 2006

My first game as a professional was Thursday night. I didn't get to make my debut, though. The coaching staff decided to give our reps at quarterback to the veterans.

I wanted to play, but the coaches wanted to evaluate the other guys, but it was still great to step on the field in the dome in St. Louis.

I got to throw my first pass as a professional, although it wasn't in the game but was when I was helping Peyton Manning get warmed up.

Even though I didn't play, I must have been in a lot of camera shots. A bunch of my friends and family called me in the days following the game to tell me they saw me.

What they saw me doing was charting our plays. Yes, I had the job carrying the clipboard and charting plays. The last time I did that was when I was backing up Ben at Miami.

Our team flight was a first for me because I had never had a team flight on a plane as large as the one we flew on to St. Louis. It was huge.

Not only did it have to hold about 150 people, but it had to handle all of our gear and luggage. We were fed chicken, pasta and shrimp for our meal on a 45 minute flight.

I understand the budget limits that Miami had when I was there. Just the way I've been treated and travel accomodations given make you excited about the chance to play in the NFL.

In fact I told my parents after the game about the flight and the meal. My mom and dad were able to make it from Vandalia to St. Louis for the game.

We didn't win the game which, regardless of the flight and the meal was a downer. That's why we went to St. Louis.

Hopefully I get to play on Sunday against Seattle and ideally we get our first win.
