A funeral service was held for John Patrick "J.P." Huling at St. Michael's Church in Sharonville Tuesday, May 15, 2012. Sgt. John Patrick "J.P." Huling, 25, a West Chester Twp. Marine, was shot and killed in Afghanistan on May 6. He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.

Teacher remembered by school

Students at Belle Haven PreK-8 School released balloons Tuesday in a tribute to art teacher Nancy Tolle who died in March. Tolle, who taught in the Dayton Public Schools system for nearly 30 years, taught at Belle Haven for 25 years. She was also an animal lover so students at the school are collecting "pennies for pets" to donate to SICSA in her honor.

Suspicious device at Speedway

The Dayton Bomb Squad detonated a suspicious package outside the Speedway corporate headquarters at 500 Speedway Drive in Enon around 11 a.m. Thursday morning. The Speedway and Seepex buildings, as well as the parking lot were shut down for nearly four hours as authorites secured the area. Employees were lined down Enon Road for nearly a mile, waiting to enter the buildings.

Undercover officer shot

Stabbing investigation

Crews battle back-to-back fires

The Dayton fire department battled two fully involved fires within one hour of each other, Monday, April 9, 2012, taxing its resources. The first occurred in the 2900 block of East Third Street. It completely destroyed the vacant home, and damaged two other adjacent home. The second fire, which occurred at 22 Parnell Ave., caused approximately $50,000 in damage and killed a family dog. No one was injured.
