The 2012 Pro Football Hall of Fame class will be chosen from 17 finalists and announced at 5:30 p.m. today on NFL Network. Among the favorites are these six:
Charles Haley, defensive end: Only player to win five Super Bowls (two with the 49ers, three with the Cowboys).
Bill Parcells, head coach: Took teams to three Super Bowls, winning two with the New York Giants.
Cris Carter, wide receiver: The Middletown native was second in career receptions (1,101) and TD catches (130) when he retired.
Tim Brown, wide receiver: Third all time in receptions (1,094) when he left the game.
Will Shields, guard: Kansas City Chiefs perennial Pro Bowler made all-decade team for the 2000s.
Chris Doleman, defensive end: Led NFL with 21 sacks in 1989; finished with 150.5, fourth all-time.
