Talawanda grad singles in first at-bat for Campbell U.

Freshman shortstop Noah Zipko singled in his first collegiate at-bat and has played in three games for the Campbell University baseball team in Buies Creek, N.C.

The Talawanda High School graduate’s hit came Feb. 20 in an 11-2 victory over visiting North Carolina Asheville.

Zipko is 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored for the Fighting Camels, who are 4-3 and host UNC Wilmington today, March 3.

Men’s swimming

Michigan junior Jared Miller (Lakota East) took fifth place in the 200-yard breaststroke last weekend at the Big Ten Championships.

Miller’s time was 1 minute, 57.22 seconds for the Wolverines, who finished second behind host Ohio State in the team standings. OSU won the title for the first time since 1956.

Women’s basketball

Junior center Lesley Williams (Fairfield) played in 15 games for Indiana Tech this season, averaging 2.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.

The Warriors finished 11-20 overall and 4-10 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.

Men’s indoor track

Otterbein junior Heath Gibson (Lakota West) earned All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors by placing third in the distance medley relay last weekend at the OAC Championships in Marietta.

Gibson’s unit recorded a time of 10:30.98. Individually, he finished fourth in the 1,000 meters (2:38.55).

The Cardinals placed fourth in the team standings.

Women’s golf

Evansville sophomore Lauren Ellerman (Lakota West) finished 20th in the Ann Rhoads/Birmingham Southern Shootout on Feb. 21-22.

Ellerman shot 84-82—166 for the Purple Aces, who placed third in a six-team field topped by Indiana State.
