Scholler memorial to be held Saturday
HAMILTON — A memorial service/visitation for Hamilton High School basketball legend Warren Scholler will take place Saturday, March 13, at the Fitton Center in Hamilton with the memorial service from 2 to 3 p.m. and the reception/visitation from 3 to 5.
Scholler, who won a state title as a player for the Big Blue and later coached HHS to two state titles, passed away in February at the age of 87.
Hayes, Mavunga earn MAC honors
CLEVELAND — Miami University’s Kenny Hayes and Julian Mavunga earned All-Mid-American Conference honors, the league announced Wednesday, March 10.
Hayes, a senior guard who leads the RedHawks in scoring with 14.6 points per game, was selected to the first team. Mavunga made honorable mention.
Other first-team selections were David Kool of Western Michigan, Rodney Pierce of Buffalo, Jimmy Conyers of Akron and Chris Singletary of Kent State.
Five RedHawks make All-CCHA team
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. — Five Miami University hockey players were named to the All-Central College Hockey Association team, the CCHA announced on Wednesday, March 10.
Senior forward Jarod Palmer and sophomore goaltender Cody Reichard were first-team selections, junior forwards Tommy Wingels and Andy Miele made the second team. Junior forward Carter Camper made honorable mention.
MU baseball team beats Yale
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Miami University’s baseball team defeated Yale 14-10 Wednesday, March 10 in the RussMatt Invitational.
The RedHawks (4-7) were led by Kyle Weldon, 3-for-5 with two RBIs; Adam Weisenburger, a home run; and Brad Gschwind and Cory Klenke, two RBIs each.
Miami softball team blanks Seattle
SEATTLE — Meredith Linch and Jessica Simpson teamed for a 10-inning shutout as Miami University’s softball team blanked Seattle 1-0 on Wednesday, March 10.
Jenna McGivney drove in the game-winning run for Miami (6-7) with a single in the top of the 10th.
Miami opens play in the Husky Classic today against defending national champion and top-ranked Washington.
Madison girls remain undefeated
SPRINGFIELD — Madison High School’s girls basketball team won 56-53 over Columbus Africentric on Wednesday, March 10 in the Division III regional semifinals to remain undefeated at 25-0.
