FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – After Miami allowed just one goal all weekend in a sweep at Michigan State, senior goalie Connor Knapp was named CCHA Goaltender of the Week and senior defenseman Cameron Schilling was tabbed CCHA Gladiator Defenseman of the Week, the Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced Monday.
They are the eighth and ninth RedHawks to earn a CCHA weekly honor this season but the awards are the first for both this year. Schilling has won CCHA Defenseman of the Week twice in his career, also winning it once last year, while he is the third Miami defenseman to win it this season as classmate Chris Wideman and junior Steven Spinell also have won CCHA Defenseman of the Week in 2011-12. The Goaltender of the Week award is the first of Knapp’s career and he is the first RedHawk to win the honor this season.
