MU women sweep Dayton in twin bill

OXFORD — Miami University’s softball team swept a doubleheader from Dayton 8-0 in six innings and 12-0 in five innings Thursday, April 1, at McKie Field.

The RedHawks (13-14) were led by Jordan McElroy, 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs in the opener, and Sarah Billstrom, a three-run homer in the second game.

Jessica Simpson recorded 10 strikeouts in the first game, and Meredith Linch and Katie Osburn combined for a four-hit shutout in the second contest.

Hatfield, Eaton propel RedHawks

OXFORD — Zak Hatfield and Adam Eaton teamed to drive in 11 runs Wednesday, March 31, as Miami University’s baseball team beat Dayton 16-3.

Hatfield went 3-for-5 with two home runs and seven RBIs for the RedHawks (11-12) and Eaton finished the day 3-for-4 with a homer, two doubles and four RBIs.

MUH wins twice over Rio Grande

HAMILTON — The Miami University Hamilton baseball team swept a doubleheader from Rio Grande, winning 7-1 and 7-3 to raise its record to 6-12.

In the first game, Josh Hugentobler went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, Jeremy Yeary was 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Derek Bischoff pitched a complete game, allowing only one earned run and striking out eight.

In the second game, Bischoff was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs, Hugentobler was 3-for-4 with a double and RBI, and Bryan Fusco was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs. The Harriers have won six of their last eight.

Miami’s Miller earns MAC track award

CLEVELAND — Miami University junior Kelley Miller was named the Mid-American Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week after she broke the school record in the 1,500-meter run at the Vanderbilt Black & Gold meet March 27 in a first-place time of 4 minutes, 26.47 seconds.
