OXFORD — During practice, Quinten Rollins and Brian Sullivan are on the court at the same time, just as they were for all 40 minutes of Miami University’s basketball game on Saturday.

There is just one difference.

In Saturday’s 52-51 victory over Buffalo, they were on the same side.

Rollins is Miami’s starting point guard and Sullivan, a freshman who came to Miami as a point guard, plays opposite him in practice.

But with two guard Josh Sewell unavailable on Saturday, Sullivan started in his place.

The result was electric. Sullivan and Rollins teamed for 30 points, six assists and five steals.

Sullivan drilled 5-of-8 shots from the 3-point arc against Buffalo, and he has knocked down 16-of-26 in Miami’s last four games.

“When he’s open he’s going to knock it down,” Rollins said. “It’s crazy. The kid doesn’t miss. When he does miss it’s a surprise.”

Although Sewell, who was held out due to academic issues, is expected back for tonight’s game against Bowling Green, Coles said he plans to start Sullivan at two guard again.

Sullivan said it was no big deal playing at that position for those 40 minutes against Buffalo.

“I played two guard all four years in high school (Upper Arlington). I was a point guard in AAU, but I’m extremely confident playing the two guard,” said Sullivan, who has played the positions at times this season, but not for an entire game.

Sewell and freshman Will Sullivan are considered better defensive players, but Brian Sullivan held his own against Buffalo and came up with two steals.

“I think he’s getting a little bit better,” Coles said.

The RedHawks (1-2 in the Mid-American Conference) are one of 10 teams in the 12-team league who are either 2-1 or 1-2.
