OXFORD — The Miami University hockey team will attend the funeral today, Feb. 9, of classmate Brendan Burke, a four-year student manager with the team who was killed Friday in a car crash in Indiana.

Burke, 21, is the son of Brian Burke, the general manager of the National Hockey League’s Toronto Maple Leafs and the U.S. Olympic hockey team.

Hundreds of people, including the Maple Leafs players, are expected to attend the service in Canton, Mass.

The RedHawks chartered a flight to Massachusetts on Monday night and will return to campus tonight, Miami spokesman Jim Stephan said.

Miami returns to the ice on Friday night at Bowling Green. The RedHawks will wear a patch on their jerseys honoring Burke for the rest of the season.
