OXFORD — Miami University baseball player Tommy Nurre was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds Thursday in the annual Major League Baseball Draft.

The recent Miami graduate was chosen by the Reds in the 38th round and was the 1,139th overall pick. Nurre was drafted for the second straight year, after being selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2008 draft.

Nurre had an impressive senior campaign in which he batted a team-leading .406, with 17 home runs and 54 RBI, all career highs. He also had 18 doubles, a triple, and 16 stolen bases while leading the team in nearly every offensive category.

Miami teammate Jordan Petraitis was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 28th round on Wednesday.
