Miami soccer blanks E. Illinois

OXFORD — The Miami University women’s soccer team blanked Eastern Illinois 2-0 on Friday night at Miami Soccer Field.

Sam Whitmore and Kayla Zakrewski scored goals for the RedHawks, who won their third straight game to improve to 6-2-0. The Panthers are 3-5-1.

Kris Gasparovic earned the shutout for Miami, which hosts Evansville on Sunday.

RedHawks handle Blue Demons

OXFORD — The Miami University volleyball team opened play in the Miami Best Western/Sycamore Inn Invitational on Friday night with a 25-18, 21-25, 25-17, 25-19 win over DePaul.

Miami improved to 5-6, while the Blue Demons fell to 1-9.

Michelle Metzler tallied 16 kills, Jenn Caylor had 15, and Amy Raseman and Christina Menche had 10 apiece for the RedHawks, who face Illinois St. (10:30 a.m.) and Indiana (7:30 p.m.) today.
