RedHawks sweep weekly MAC awards

CLEVELAND – The Miami softball team swept the Mid-American Conference weekly softball awards on the East Division side, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Freshman Kayla Ledbetter was named MAC East Division Player of the Week. For the second consecutive week, junior Jessica Simpson was named the MAC East Division Pitcher of the Week.

Ledbetter hit .462 (6-for-13) for the week with a .650 on base percentage. Simpson led Miami to the tournament title at the Louisville Red and Black Tournament. She appeared in four games, starting three and earned wins in every single appearance (4-0). Her ERA for the weekend was 1.22.

Miele named CCHA Player of the Month

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. — Miami senior forward Andy Miele has been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Player of the Month for February, the conference announed Tuesday.

It’s the second straight month Miele has received the award.

Miele totaled 12 points (four goals, eight assists) in six games, helping Miami to a 5-0-1 record for the month. He leads the nation in scoring with 61 points (19-42) and won the CCHA scoring title with 56 points.

MUH baseball falls at Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Ky. — The Miami University-Hamilton baseball team dropped a 6-0 decision at Georgetown College on Tuesday.

Bryan Apking had the lone hit for the Harriers (0-3), while Tyler McCarthy pitched 6 1/3 innings of two-hit relief.
