ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Top-ranked Miami scored five unanswered goals Saturday night, Nov. 7, to beat No. 4 Michigan 5-1 and sweep the two-game series at Yost Ice Arena.
It was the first time since 2001 — 45 series — that the Wolverines had been swept at home. The two victories were the fourth and the fifth for Miami in 49 games at Yost.
The RedHawks (8-1-1, 5-1-0 CCHA), fell behind 1-0 at the 10:43 mark of the first period. But Pat Cannone scored less than 90 seconds later to tie, and Miami was off and running.
The RedHawks got goals from Andy Miele and Reilly Smith in the second period, and Curtis McKenzie and Smith in the third period. Smith’s goals were the first of his college career.
Michigan is 4-4-0, 2-2-0.
Miami returns home next weekend to face Ferris State in games Friday and Saturday at Steve Cady Arena.
