BOWLING GREEN — Another Miami University hockey assistant coach is taking over his own program in the Central College Hockey Association.

Chris Bergeron, an assistant at Miami the past 10 years, is the new coach at Bowling Green, the university announced this morning.

“Chris’ passion, energy and commitment to excellence won us over,” BG Athletic Director Greg Christopher said in a release. “As a player, he set the foundation for Miami’s program, then as a coach he helped build the program to its current championship caliber. At every stage, Chris has been known as a tremendous leader. This is his time to step into a head coaching role and lead Bowling Green hockey to prominence.”

Bergeron helped lead the RedHawks to eight 20-win seasons and six NCAA Tournament trips in his 10 years as a member of Enrico Blasi’s staff. Bergeron played at Miami from 1989-93 and served as captain for two years.

Bergeron will be introduced today at a 4 p.m. news conference.

Last week, former Miami assistant coach Jeff Blashill was named the new coach at Western Michigan.
