OXFORD — On a day when Bleacher Report columnist Dave Walker predicted a 66-0 victory for the University of Florida in its football season opener against Miami University, it probably shouldn’t come as a surprise that the RedHawks seem little more than an afterthought among the Gators.

During press conferences held on Monday, Aug. 30, with Florida coach Urban Meyer and some of his players, only a few of the many questions asked concerned the Gators’ first opponent.

Miami opens the season at No. 4 Florida at noon Saturday, Sept. 4.

Meyer, on whether the RedHawks do anything unique:

“No, they have a good quarterback (Zac Dysert) that’s a sophomore now. They have two SEC-caliber receivers, and they got a transfer in from Iowa (DeMarco Paine). One of our coaches saw him in high school. We just have to be very smart. If they’re going to hurt us, then that’s our No. 1 concern.

“I think defensively, up front, hold on to our gaps. We have some new players out there in the secondary as well. One corner is going to be a brand new player for us so that’s our biggest concern with Miami’s offense.”

Senior defensive end Justin Trattou, on watching film of Miami:

“We started watching a little bit of film last week, but we are going to get more into it this week.”

Trattou, on specialties of Miami:

“I have not studied them too much yet, but I do know that they are returning all of their offensive linemen.”

Senior guard Carl Johnson, on his expectations for Miami:

“Use the opening game to continue to mesh as a team. We are looking forward to going out on the field and playing well, especially with so many new young guys.”

Senior linebacker Lorenzo Edwards, on what is expected against Miami:

“Go out there and have fun, execute our offense, defense, and special teams in our route to be the best team in America.”
