OXFORD — Quarterback Tyler Sheehan said he already had been embarrassed once at Yager Stadium. He didn’t want it to happen again.

It didn’t. Sheehan and his senior teammates at Bowling Green finally chalked up their first victory over Miami, beating the RedHawks 35-14 on Thursday, Nov. 12.

Miami had won nine of the previous 10 over Bowling Green, including a 47-14 blowout in 2007.

“It’s probably one of the biggest victories of my career because we’ve struggled so much against them ever since I’ve been here,” Sheehan said.

“The last time we came here we got embarrassed pretty bad,” he said, “and that loss has stuck with me a long time I had a lot of people at the game here today and I didn’t want to get embarrassed again.”

Sheehan, a native of Cincinnati, was a standout at La Salle High School.

Wright not very busy

Middletown High School graduate Chris Wright started Thursday’s contest as Bowling Green’s second-leading receiver in terms of yardage with 451 this fall.

Against the RedHawks, however, Wright finished with just one reception for 9 yards. He was wide open for what appeared to be a sure touchdown early in the fourth quarter but could not haul in Sheehan’s pass.

Two other Middletown grads on Bowling Green’s roster are redshirt freshmen offensive linemen Chip Robinson and Blaec Walker.

Robinson (6-foot-6, 327 pounds) is listed as second string at right tackle on the team’s depth chart and Walker (6-5, 300) is second string at left tackle.

Miami true freshman Austin Brown recorded his second blocked field goal of the season when he got his hand on Matt Norsic’s 34-yard attempt with 4:55 left in the third quarter Thursday night.

Brown, a 6-foot-2, 266-pound defensive tackle, blocked his first field-goal attempt in Miami’s 16-6 loss at Northwestern on Oct. 10.

Weak third quarter

So just how bad was the third quarter for Miami?

Besides being outscored 14-0, the RedHawks were dwarfed in terms of total yards. Bowling Green had 113, Miami had 4.

And that was after the RedHawks gained 7 yards in the final seconds of the period.

The longest drive

Miami’s first-quarter touchdown drive which covered 89 yards in 13 plays was the team’s longest of the season. Dysert scored on a 2-yard run with 1:26 left in the period to tie the game at 7-7.
