Oxford natives and sisters, Jenni and Allie Horvath, daughters of Tom and Terri Horvath, are making their marks in the world of college sports.
Jenni Horvath has been named the assistant volleyball coach for State University of New York at Buffalo.
The previous season, Jenni helped coach the University of Toledo Rockets to a 14-17 record and a first-round victory in the Mid-American Conference tournament.
Jenni graduated from Stephen T. Badin High School and still holds the school record for kills.
While in high school, she was selected to the Cincinnati Enquirer’s All-Star Volleyball first team two years in a row and was named to the Southwest Ohio Volleyball Coaches Association’s first-team All-City as a senior.
Jenni graduated from Xavier in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in advertising.
Younger sister Allie, a junior at the University of Pittsburgh, recently competed in the Big East Conference Swimming Championships in Indianapolis.
Allie placed 16th overall in the 100-yard backstroke (57.06 seconds) and 14th in the 200 backstroke (2.01:66), which were both her personal bests.
Allie, the team’s captain, helped Pitt finish third overall in the conference behind Notre Dame and the University of Louisville.
She has also received the highest academic achievement award and the most improved swimmer award.
Allie is majoring in neuroscience with a chemistry minor with a certificate in conceptual foundation of medicine.
The two sisters come from an athletic family. Their father, Tom, played baseball at Easter Kentucky. Their grandfather, Bob Ptacek, earned team MVP honors as a quarterback at the University of Michigan in 1958 before playing professionally with the Cleveland Browns in 1959 and the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders from 1960-65.
