Fairfield (5-4, 4-2 GMC) at Hamilton (2-7, 1-5 GMC)
Last year: Hamilton 35, Fairfield 7
Last week: Fairfield 30, Mason 7; Princeton 29, Hamilton 26
Fairfield will win if ... its defense can avoid getting gashed. Hamilton will run the ball with success, but if the Indians can surrender just first downs and not touchdowns and force Big Blue to sustain long drives, they should be able to snap their three-game losing streak against their rivals. The Fairfield program has lost 29 consecutive games when allowing 15 or more points, with three of those contests coming in 2009.
Hamilton will win if ... it can package together the three E’s — effort, emotion and execution. Effort is rarely a question with this team, and the emotion should be there as well on Senior Night. But the execution has to be better than it’s been during this current three-game losing streak. After two poor showings by the offense, everything clicked last week only to have the defense break down. All facets will have to be working well if HHS is going to beat the much improved Indians.
Badin (6-3, 3-3 GCL Central) at McNicholas (5-4, 4-2 GCL Central)
Last year: Badin 35, McNicholas 21
Last week: Dayton Carroll 27, Badin 24; McNicholas 20, Fenwick 10
Badin will win if ... the Rams continue to have success throwing the ball. The offensive attack has opened up in recent games and has been very effective, thanks to quarterback Patrick Coyne and a bevy of quality receivers. That’s Badin’s offensive strength right now, and scoring three or more touchdowns would be a very good thing against McNick, which has scored 21 or more points only twice all season.
McNicholas will win if ... the Rockets can play ball control, eat up the clock and wear Badin’s defense down. McNick is only 39-of-104 through the air this year, so the running game is likely to be on display. Quarterback Matt Staubach has been more consistent with his feet (143 carries, 639 yards, 11 touchdowns) than his arm (38-of-87, 523 yards, two TDs).
Lakota West (8-1, 6-0 GMC) at Lakota East (3-6, 3-3 GMC)
Last year: Lakota West 20, Lakota East 19
Last week: Lakota West 34, Oak Hills 7; Lakota East 48, Sycamore 14
Lakota West will win if ... it focuses on the task at hand. For the Firebirds, it’s virtually a win and they’re in the playoffs. Last week’s win was arguably West’s most complete game of the season, and another like that would mean Week 11 reservations.
Lakota East will win if ... it controls the clock with the most productive RB in the league — senior Pedro Powell. Powell leads the GMC with 1,292 yards and nine TDs, and has rushed for at least 103 yards every game this season. The Firebirds’ defense will have its hands full with this 5-foot-8, 187-pound back.
Sycamore (2-7, 0-6 GMC) at Mason (2-7, 1-5 GMC)
Last year: Sycamore 34, Mason 10
Last week: Lakota East 48, Sycamore 14; Fairfield 30, Mason 7
Sycamore will win if ... its young players who have been gaining valuable experience this season continue to develop. The Aves have played a bunch of sophomores and juniors, and coach Scott Dattilo would like to end the season positively.
Mason will win if ... it plays with pride for its seniors on Senior Night. The Comets have been outscored 86-10 the last two weeks after a Week 7 victory, and they need show they haven’t mailed in the season by sending the seniors out on a high note.
Middletown (8-1, 5-1 GMC) at Princeton (5-4, 3-3 GMC)
Last year: Middletown 29, Princeton 28
Last week: Colerain 10, Middletown 7; Princeton 29, Hamilton 26
Middletown will win if ... it shakes off a disappointing loss to Colerain last week that ruined their undefeated season and possibly their playoff hopes. But the Middies remain alive for a playoff spot and they must win at Princeton to keep that opportunity available.
Princeton will win if ... Spencer Ware can run on the Middies defense, which gave up its most rushing yards of the season last week to the triple-headed running threat at Colerain.
Dixie (5-4, 3-2 SWBL Buckeye) at Carlisle (7-2, 4-1 SWBL Buckeye)
Last year: Carlisle 36, Dixie 28
Last week: Dixie 22, Madison 18; Carlisle 56, Preble Shawnee 14
Dixie will win if ... QB Luke Bowling can establish the Greyhounds passing game early. Teams are averaging 9.7 yards per completion against the Indians defense. Carlisle’s opponents have completed 69-of-166 passes (41 percent) for 643 yards this season.
Carlisle will win if ... the home team concentrates on just getting the win, which will put them in the playoffs for the first time since 2004. The Indians have a strong running game led by Nick McGill, who crossed the 1,000-yard mark last week. Dixie has allowed 273 points this season, third-most in the Southwestern Buckeye League Buckeye Division.
Lebanon (7-2, 3-0 GWOC South) at Miamisburg (1-8, 0-3 GWOC South)
Last year: Lebanon 33, Miamisburg 14
Last week: Lebanon 49, Xenia 21; Fairborn 44, Miamisburg 15
Lebanon will win if ... its offense continues to fire on all cylinders. The Warriors piled up over 500 yards of offense in last week’s win over Xenia and is on the cusp of a rare statistical accomplishment. Lebanon needs 57 yards rushing and 170 yards passing to break the 2,000 yard barrier in each for the season.
