One of the most successful seasons statistically in Talawanda High School baseball history has recently come to an end.

The Talawanda Braves varsity baseball team had an exciting season. In the Fort Ancient Valley Conference Scarlet division, they went 9-1; Overall they went 17-8 and won the Scarlet division.

Coach Pete Maus said they were a senior dominated team with 11 seniors on their roster.

“The senior experience and strong team chemistry led to a successful season,” Maus added.

Maus explained that the Braves led the FAVC in all three divisions — Buckeye, Cardinal, Scarlet — in Team AVG (.366); Runs (216); Hits (274); doubles (53); taking second in RBI (183) and On Base Percentage (.435).

It was the Braves’ fourth straight year with 17 or more wins in a season and they were the 13th seed out of the 32 teams in the Division I tournament. They ended their season as sectional runners-up for the second year in a row, losing to Lakota West 4-1.

With all that success comes the recognition of the players and coach who made it happen.

Braden Park led the way being recognized as the FAVC Scarlet Player of the Year, joining teammates Noah Zipko, Todd Weiser and Stephen Kuehn as First Team FAVC Scarlet selections.

In addition, Zipko and Park were chosen to play in this weekend’s Ohio High School Mizuno Tournament at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe.

They will join players from around the state in the tournament, playing on teams based on geographic regions and Maus has been chosen to coach the Southwest Ohio Blue team in the event.

Maus said that he has been fortunate to have had the opportunity to coach these players and that he is excited to get the chance to coach them for the Mizuno Tournament this one last time.

“These two players have set the bar pretty high for our program,” he said. “They will be difficult to replace.”

The two were also recognized with top team awards at the post-season awards program and Park was given the MVP award and Zipko the Best Infielder Award.

The Best Outfielder award went to Weiser, the Most Improved award to Kyle Elza and the varsity Braves Award also to Weiser.
