Shuck's projections: Take a look at his prep football playoff field

Shuck’s Projections publisher Steve Shuck is projecting four Butler County prep football teams to make the playoffs: Lakota West and Middletown in Division I, Ross in Division II and Monroe in Division III.

Among Middletown-area teams, Shuck also has four qualifiers: Middletown in Division I, Monroe in Division III, and Valley View and Carlisle in Division IV.

We’re preparing stories for our Thursday print editions, but we wanted to get these projections out now for the five regions that have local teams still alive. So here they are:

DIVISION I, REGION 4

PROJ PROJ

REC REC PTS

1. Moeller 9-0 10-0 38.83

2. St. Xavier 7-2 7-3 32.26

3. Anderson 9-0 10-0 31.30

4. Elder 6-2 7-2 30.27

5. Huber Hts. Wayne 6-3 7-3 26.60

6. Lakota West 8-1 9-1 25.05

7. Centerville 7-2 8-2 23.95

8. Middletown 8-1 9-1 23.90

Teams To Watch

9. Colerain 7-2 8-2 22.93

10. Lebanon 7-2 8-2 22.75

11. Clay. Northmont 5-4 6-4 22.35

Overview: West should be in good shape with a victory over Lakota East (3-6), though beating the surging Thunderhawks may not be easy. Middletown and Colerain are torn over the Hamilton-Fairfield game. Shuck is now projecting Fairfield to win, thus helping the Middies. If HHS wins and all other projections don’t change, Middletown and Colerain will switch places. Lebanon needs a win over Miamisburg (1-8) and some help. Springboro (7-2) is still alive, but needs a long string of fortunate outcomes to climb into contention.

DIVISION II, REGION 8

PROJ PROJ

REC REC PTS

1. Turpin 9-0 10-0 30.25

2. Winton Woods 7-2 8-2 28.80

3. N. Carlisle Tecumseh 8-1 9-1 27.80

4. Trotwood-Madison 6-3 7-3 24.15

5. West Carrollton 8-1 9-1 20.50

6. Ross 5-4 6-4 16.80

7. Wilmington 7-2 7-3 16.40

8. Mount Healthy 6-3 6-4 15.15

Teams To Watch

9. Dayton Carroll 5-4 6-4 13.70

10. Harrison 5-4 5-5 12.85

11. Greenville 3-6 4-6 12.60

Overview: Ross has Northwest (4-5) at home, and a victory will likely send the Rams to the postseason. The concern is that Wilmington and Mount Healthy will both pass Ross with wins, and Harrison could soar into the mix with a win over Anderson (9-0). Not likely, but who really knows for sure?

DIVISION III, REGION 12

PROJ PROJ

REC REC PTS

1. Wyoming 9-0 10-0 21.6

2. Day. Cham. Julienne 8-1 8-2 20.8

3. Circleville Logan Elm 7-2 8-2 20.7

4. WCH Washington 6-3 7-3 18.4

5. Jackson 7-2 8-2 17.4

6. Monroe 7-2 8-2 17.1

7. Eaton 7-2 8-2 16.6

8. Springfield Shawnee 6-3 7-3 16.55

Teams To Watch

9. Goshen 7-2 7-3 16.53

10. Franklin 6-3 7-3 16.4

11. McNicholas 5-4 6-4 16.1

12. Hillsboro 7-2 8-2 15.16

13. New Richmond 8-1 8-2 15.13

Overview: A real mess of a region. Monroe looks to be a good bet with a win over Dayton Northridge (1-8), but every game will be important for first- and second-level points among this group. Franklin needs to beat Dayton Oakwood (1-8) and get some help to qualify.

DIVISION IV, REGION 16

PROJ PROJ

REC REC PTS

1. Clinton-Massie 9-0 10-0 29.1

2. Kettering Alter 9-0 10-0 27.1

3. North College Hill 9-0 10-0 23.9

4. Kenton 8-1 9-1 23.4

5. Valley View 6-3 7-3 21.5

6. Carlisle 7-2 8-2 18.4

7. Day. Thur. Marshall 6-3 7-3 16.71

8. Waynesville 7-2 8-2 16.68

Teams To Watch

9. Milton-Union 6-3 7-3 16.35

10. Plain City Jon. Alder 6-3 7-3 14.1

Overview: At least it’s simple for Valley View and Carlisle. If the Spartans beat Brookville (5-4) and the Indians beat Dixie (5-4), they’ll be in the playoffs. Valley View has a pretty good shot even with a loss, while Carlisle may not have that luxury.

DIVISION V, REGION 20

PROJ PROJ

REC REC PTS

1. Richwood North Union 9-0 10-0 22.2

2. Coldwater 8-1 9-1 21.3

3. West Liberty-Salem 9-0 10-0 20.8

4. Anna 8-1 9-1 19.9

5. Columbus Ready 7-1 7-2 16.9

6. St. Henry 6-3 7-3 16.6

7. West Jefferson 8-1 8-2 16.46

8. Columbus Academy 7-2 8-2 16.45

Teams To Watch

9. CHCA 6-3 7-3 14.9

10. Cass. Miami East 8-1 8-2 14.35

11. Badin 6-3 6-4 14.30

Overview: Badin closes the season at McNicholas (5-4), and the Rams likely need a victory to give themselves a shot at the postseason. The Rockets are worth 2.9 points to Badin, so a win would send the Rams into fifth place if everything else goes the way Shuck projected. That’s a big if because there are some tough games to call in this region. Bottom line for Badin: Win first, then start scouring the list of scores.
