Allison Bockrath scored 18 points for Alter High School’s girls basketball team, which held on to defeat the Badin 61-56 Wednesday in the Rams’ Girls Greater Cincinnati League opener.
Abby Fritsch scored 12 of her team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter for the Rams. She also had 10 rebounds.
Badin, which has lost 17 straight to Alter, trailed 8-0 but later went on a 15-0 run and led 24-22 at halftime. With 6.2 seconds left in the fourth quarter Alter led by only two points, but the Rams were unable to get possession of the ball and the Knights sealed the win by hitting three free throws.
Badin slipped to 2-1 overall. Alter improved to 3-0, 1-0 in the GGCL.
Talawanda 71, Northwest 29: The Braves had four scorers in double figures, led by Megan Richardson with 15 points. Ana Richter and Caitlyn Calhoun each scored 14 points and Brilyn Webb had 10. Richter also had nine rebounds, four blocks and four steals. Talawanda improved to 2-2, 1-0 in the Fort Ancient Valley Conference.
Winton Woods 52, Ross 32: The Rams lost their FAVC opener, falling to 1-2 overall. Kaitlyn Pennekamp led Ross with 11 points, seven rebounds and five steals.
