OHIO HEAT U10 HOLDING TRYOUTS: The Ohio Heat U10 baseball team, which plays in the SWOL Ameican League, will hold tryouts July 11 and 18 at 10 a.m. The tryouts will be at the UAW Hall at 1233 Symmes Rd. HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL SHOWCASE AT KINGDOM: Registration is taking place for boys and girls teams for the High School Basketball Showcase Tournament to be held July 24-26 at Kingdom Sports Center in Franklin. Cost is $275 per team which includes three games and all referee fees. Deadline to register is July 18. CINCY DRAGONS HOLDING 2010 9U TRYOUTS: The Cincy Dragons will hold 9U baseball tryouts for the 2010 season on July 24 and 31 at 6 p.m. and July 25 at 5 p.m. at Fairfield Township Park on Morris Road behind the firehouse. WAKEBOARD NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS AT JOYCE PARK: The USA Wakeboard National Championships will be held Thursday, July 30, through Saturday, Aug. 1, at Wake Nation Cincinnati, located at 201 Joe Nuxhall Way in Joyce Park. The best wakeboarders in the national will compete to earn a spot on Team USA and the right to represent their country in the Wakeboard World Championships in Korea. Preliminaries begin at 8 a.m. July 30, and finals will start at 2 p.m. Aug. 1. The $10 admission charge incudes access for the prelims and finals. There is no charge for children under 5, and parking will be free. Admission tickets are available at Wake Nation. For more information, go to www.wakenation.com.

MID-WESTERN CHILDREN’S HOME GOLF TOURNAMENT: The 17th annual Mid-Western Children’s Home Golf Tournament will be held Aug. 1 at Fairfield Greens Golf Course. The tournament will have a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Entry fee is $100, which includes 18 holes with cart, and a steak dinner. For more information, call Mike Sivak at (513) 877-2003.

ROSS 5K AND KIDS RUN SCHEDULED: The Ross Rambler 5-kilometer run, and a Kids Fun Run, will take place starting at 9 a.m., Aug. 8 at the Fernald Nature Preserve in Ross Township. The event, which is being organized by the Ross High School Cross Country team, is $10 for pre-registered runners 18 and under, $15 for pre-registered 19 and over. Race day admission is $20. UNITED WAY GOLF OUTING, PIG ROAST IS AUG. 14: The Butler County United Way is hosting a Golf Outing and Pig Roast. The four-person scramble will be held on Friday, Aug. 14, to benefit the Butler County United Way community. In addition to a fun day of golf, dinner will be a pig roast and there will be lots of door prizes, silent auction items as well as a Grand Prize Raffle for a AQUOS Liquid Crystal 40-inch television donated by a local company. FUND-RAISERS TO BENEFIT JOE TOERNER FAMILY: Lindenwald native and Fairfield resident Joe Toerner will be the guest of honor Saturday, Aug. 21, at the Friends of Joe Toerner Benefit at the Oscar Events Center. The fund-raising party will feature live and silent auctions, a DJ, live music, food and drinks. Cost is $50, and all proceeds go to the Toerner family to help Joe in his battle against ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. The organizers are still accepting donations and items for the auctions. Donations also can be made at any Key Bank branch. A separate event will be a Haircuts for Joe benefit which will be held from 1-4 p.m. July 26 at Unique Designs Day Spa, 1778 Happy Valley Dr., in Fairfield. STRIKE OUT BRAIN CANCER BENEFIT IS AUG. 29: The Nik Scheffler Strike Out Brain Cancer benefit will be held Aug. 29, at the Pier 27 Beer Garden and Grill. Scheffler is a 9-year-old fourth-grader and a pitcher in the Morgan Ross Athletic Association who is battling brain cancer. The benefit will begin at 2 p.m., and families are welcome, although it will be 21 and older after dark. The benefit will include a cornhole tournament, food, live music, family activities, a silent auction and raffles. Volunteers and donations are still needed. Donations can be made to the “Nik Scheffler Benfit” at any 5/3 Bank branch. For more information, call Kim at (513) 738-3775 or visit http://nikscheffler.eventbrite.com.
