HAMILTON — Courtney Hubbard was surprised by her selection to the 2010 Associated Press All-Southwest District first team.

“But I’m excited,” the Badin High School senior forward said. “Who wouldn’t be?”

The Southwest District boys and girls basketball teams were released Monday, March 8, and Hubbard earned a spot on the Division III first unit in voting by media panel in the district.

She averaged 11.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game during the regular season for the Rams (17-6), who captured the Girls Greater Cincinnati League Grey Central Division title before losing to Versailles in a district final last Saturday in Springfield.

“I wouldn’t trade this season for anything,” Hubbard said. “I thought everything went really well. I’ll always keep those memories.”

Her basketball career may not be over. Hubbard said she’s narrowed her college choices to the following: Go to Wilmington, play basketball and study athletic training, or just be a student at Ball State or Kentucky and work toward a career in fashion.

“I’m going to see how my life goes without basketball the next few weeks and see if I can live without it,” said Hubbard, who is 21st on Badin’s all-time scoring list with 489 points. “Then I’ll make a decision.”

She is joined on the D-III first team by two Madison players — junior Ally Malott, the Player of the Year, and senior Lindsay Hoskins, who has committed to Lehigh.

The Mohawks are 24-0 and set to meet Columbus Africentric in the regional semifinals Wednesday.

In Division IV, Cincinnati Christian senior Sarah Carroll is a first-teamer and New Miami senior Kim Gault was picked for the second unit.

Sophomore Whitney Wyckoff garnered a spot on the Division I third team after being a major contributor to the best season in Lakota East history.

Five Butler County boys were placed on teams in their divisions: Lakota West senior Jordan Hicks (second) in Division I, Madison senior Mark Maloney (first) and Badin senior Scott Purcell (second) in Division III, and Cincinnati Christian senior Nick Brandts (second) in Division IV.
