FAIRFIELD — Fairfield High School football coach Doc Gamble said Monday, March 9, that free safety Arryn Chenault verbally committed to the University of Cincinnati on Sunday.
Chenault (6-foot-1, 180 pounds) took an unofficial visit to Michigan State this past weekend, but wanted to stay close to home.
"I like what they're doing there and the program is rising," said Chenault, a first-team, All-Greater Miami Conference pick last season.
"It was a goal of mine to go to the right school, not to commit early," he added. "I just think this is the right place. When you know, you know. It's a feeling."
He also had an offer from Indiana on the table, and had drawn interest from Michigan, Northwestern and Minnesota.
"He has the total package," Gamble said. "People were surprised I moved him to safety (from outside linebacker). When I got the job, I envisioned him playing there. He can cover you man to man, and he can definitely hit you. He's very physical.
"He's tremendous in run support, and has great ball skills," he continued. "He's very heady. He has a 3.1 in the classroom and a 4.0 on the field."
