Marc, are you still mad the Dragons didn't get a lot of talent this year? Lets see, you're getting Fellhauer soon. You have gotten Means. You have Puckett, Fairel, Sulbaran, Wiley, Coddington. Come on man. The AA team in Carolina has had Frazier, Alonso, Cozart, Heisey, Henry, Stewart, Wood, and they still have a losing record. Its not about winning in the minor leagues. That would be a plus. Dragons have basically the same team that won the division in Billings last year, minus Buccholz.

I just want to apologize for the article. I was doing a piece on Dave Sappelt, but he got promoted to Sarasota. Since it was so close to the deadline, I decided to pull out an article I wrote years ago and change around the words so that it would appear to be new. It's only the third time I've done it this year, so I thought I could get away with it. Anyway, once again, I'm sorry that I'm such a horrible writer. I'm nearing my quota of anti-Reds articles, so please hang tight and keep reading!

Yeah the reds should cater their player develop around the ability for their farm teams to win a 1st half pennant...lol. This has to be the most uneducated pile of drivel I've seen written in a long time, and considering the present state of sports journalism that's saying something.

Marc, you're missing the entire point of having a farm system. You're also not offering a solution to your perceived problem, either. What should they do about this? Demote some good players from Sarasota to help the Dragons win? Keep the roster that's been there all along, even though you admit they've only lost one impact player so far? If they don't have any high draft choices or highly touted prospects ready to play in Dayton, then what's the point of this article?

This article was about pleasing the home crowd in Dayton. It was a feel good, fuzzy wuzzy, article that Hal wrote to gain some brownie points. He knows it. Personally, it doesn't bother me. It's like a visit to Dairy Queen. Shouldn't have done it. No nutritional value. Waste of money. Oh well.

Reed said it..."in the process"...OR "it's not whether U win or lose it's HOW U PLAY the GAME that MATTERS MOST!" I watched the AA and AAA teams over the last week & what sticks out most is their IN-ability to execute the basics / fundamentals of the game. How many yrs have many of us fans said the same thing about the Reds ML team...far too many!! Take care of the fundamentals, become more disciplined in their approach and winning will take care of itself IMHO. What R they teaching in minors?

I agree that the most important thing for a minor league team is to develop talent for the major league team. However, I've seen plenty of players with average talent become vital to their MLB clubs over the years because of their intangibles - leadership, winning attitude, hustle, etc. Those things ALSO should be taught at the minor league level. Winning is important at all levels.

The Dayton Dragons exist not to win, but to develop good baseball players for the Cincinnati Reds. The Dragons are a Cincinnati farm-team; that is their #1 priority. If they happen to win in the process, than that's icing on the cake, and it is usaully an indication that the team is developing good baseball players. But wins and losses in Dayton don't tell a complete picture when it comes to developing good baseball players for the Reds- it's the wins and losses in Cincinnati that count.

This is what a MINOR league team is about. Development! You develope talent, they move on. The Reds organization would do alot better if the minor's would develope someone. How many dropped fly balls or over thrown balls will get you into the majors? How about the bad baserunning?

The Chicago Cubs provide an example of how to win with successful minor leaguers? ooo, bad example. Look, it's not important that the Dayton Dragons win. It's important for the Reds to develop product. Drawing 8500 fans/game is impressive but they don't deserve anything better than what the rest of us minor league fans have to put up with. **** it up, Gem City.

Benzinger must have bumped his head. Back in his day the Tigers were in the World Series, The Pirates had a string of great teams and the Yankees were terrible. Besides, winning in the minors doesn't translate to winning in the majors. Especially in this era of payroll disparity. This makes no sense! I just wasted 10 minutes of my life on this bad article.
