For the third time in his career, Francisco Cordero is an All-Star — with three different teams.

This year he is the lone Cincinnati Reds representative, selected by National League manager Charlie Manuel for converting 20 saves in 21 opportunities.

Cordero also was an American League All-Star with the Texas Rangers in 2004 and an NL All-Star with Milwaukee in 2007.

“It’s always a great feeling to be selected to the All-Star team and it shows that you’ve done a great job,” Cordero said. “It is great after what happened to me in the offseason (his mother, Martinia, died and he had foot surgery). I had a big loss in the offseason, but she’s up there watching me and she’s happy.”

Cordero said he has family — brothers, a nephew and his son, Brian Javier — who will attend the game.

“This is my third time and it’s always special,” he said. “It’s a big goal for me and I’ve made it with three different teams. I’m probably not showing how excited I am right now, but I will be when I get to St. Louis.”

“Coco is very deserving, lights out for us,” Red manager Dusty Baker said. “I’m glad for him, especially after he had that bad ankle last year and people wondered if we made a mistake in signing him.”

Some people thought Johnny Cueto might make it and Baker said, “I would have liked to see him make it, but he has time, he’s getting better, he’ll make it.”
