Caesar Creek Lake: “We’re seeing some of the best bluegills we have seen in years,” exclaimed one veteran angler. Use waxworms and fish around wood, 5-6 feet deep. Saugeye fishing has been excellent on the flats and around the island. Use crawler harnesses and troll or drift or try jigging with a nightcrawler. Crappies are about 10-12 feet deep, hitting minnows. Bass fishing has been good close to the banks around wood with crankbaits or spinners.

Indian Lake: The “Saugeye Capital of Ohio” is living up to its name. While most have moved to deeper water, the bite is still strong. Use Vib-E’s, crankbaits, crawler harnesses or large minnows and fish 5-10 feet deep. Dream Bridge has been producing a number of saugeyes as well as white bass. Bluegills are around rocks and docks, hitting waxworms and redworms. Crappies are in the lily pads, biting on minnows or small tubes. A number of shovelhead catfish and channel catfish have been caught in recent days.

Lake Loramie: Catfish are plentiful all over the lake. Use chicken liver, cut shad, nightcrawlers or shrimp and fish close to the bank. Bluegills are being caught off of the rocks on waxworms, redworms or pieces of either on an ice jig. Crappies, mostly too small to keep, are 3 feet deep, biting on minnows. For bass, fish close to the bank with small crankbaits, spinners or plastics. Saugeyes are still being caught in the spillway by jigging leeches or casting chartreuse twisters.

Cowan Lake: Crappies have gone deep, at least 12 feet. Try the deep hole near the island. Saugeyes are hitting Vib-E’s and trolled crawler harnesses. The best spots have been in front of the marina and in the area directly across the lake from the sailboat club. Bass are starting to hit topwater baits fished early and late.

Rocky Fork Lake: Bass fishermen are working the points with black/grape Bushogs and fire-tiger crankbaits 5-8 feet deep. Fish in shallow water for saugeyes off of the south beach or troll around the island with a crawler harness. Bluegills are hitting waxworms in the coves. For crappies, look for wood and fish 6-10 feet deep. Most have been too small to keep.

Paint Creek Lake: Crappies are scattered, but are biting on minnows. Work the wood at depths of 5-8 feet. Minnows or black/chartreuse jigs have been best. Bass have been hitting plastics away from the banks in 3-6 feet of water. Plenty of channel cats have been caught on cut shad and nightcrawlers. Spillway fishing has been very good for small saugeyes, catfish and crappies.

C.J. Brown Reservoir: Walleye fishing has been very good. Try trolling or drifting over the humps or the old road bed near the campground. Or use a crawler harness or jig with a large bass minnow or nightcrawler. Channel cats have been hitting nightcrawlers off of the rocks. For crappies work the marina or find some of the deeper holes. Minnows or jigs tipped with waxworms have been good baits.

Grand Lake St. Marys: Fishing continues to be very good for crappies, catfish and bluegills and the bass are beginning to hit. For crappies, fish the channels around brush or pontoons. Bluegills are under docks and around the rocks. Catfish are hitting cut shad and nightcrawlers all over the lake. For bass, work the channels with spinnerbaits.

Lake Erie: Walleye fishing is improving and has been best around West Sister Island, north of West Reef, between North Bass Island and Kelleys Island and east of Kelleys Island. Fish have been caught by trolling with divers and spoons, inline weights and worm harnesses, and crankbaits. Walleyes can also be caught by casting mayfly rigs or drifting with bottom bouncers and worm harnesses.

Yellow perch fishing has been best east of Ballast Island, east of the Kelleys Island airport, and south of Gull Island Shoal.
