Rumors have been circulating in the Middletown area about a possible venue change for the big Greater Miami Conference boys basketball matchup between the Middletown and host Princeton.
Rumors had suggested the game was going to be moved to Xavier University’s Cintas Center, but according to Princeton Athletic Director Scott Kaufman in an e-mail today, Jan. 8, the rumors are not true. The game will be played as scheduled at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27 at Princeton High School, Kaufman said.
Princeton and Middletown are the Nos. 1 and 2 ranked teams in Cincinnati, respectively. Both teams have identical records of 8-1 overall and 4-0 in the GMC.
Stay tuned for more news as the game approaches.

The highly-anticipated girls basketball showdown between Lakota West and Mount Notre Dame is set for 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12, at MND.
The history between the two programs is well-documented. The Cougars (11-0) lead the all-time series 6-1, and have dealt the Firebirds (8-1) season-ending losses the last three tournaments, including in last year’s state finals, 69-67.
That game, as we all recall, is most remembered by the controversy surrounding Kathryn Reynolds’ game-winning layup and whether time had expired before the ball left her right hand.
MND has captured three straight state titles, and four in the last five years.
“Our girls take a lot of pride,” West coach Andy Fishman said. “They come to practice every day and every game wanting to play like champions. I wouldn’t expect any differently from our girls when we go up against Mount Notre Dame. That’s how we’re coaching them. We’re coaching them to get ready for a state tournament run like last year.”
Fishman said the school will receive 300 tickets for the game, which will be easily sold out in the 800-seat MND gym.
“It’s going to be a great night for girls basketball,” Fishman said. “The only thing better would be to have it here. We could pack it with 3,000 people instead of playing there with 800. That’s the only downside from a fan perspective because it’s sold out.
“When our teams lock up, this is a signature game for girls basketball in Cincinnati.”
The Cougars — ranked No. 5 in the nation in ESPN’s RISE FAB 50 and No. 10 in USA Today’s Super 25 — are led by seniors Kendall Hackney (USC) and Gabby Smith (Vanderbilt).
Hackney, a Mason resident, averages 13.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, while Smith is the team’s leading scorer at 14.9 a clip.
Other area residents for MND are: seniors Ashley Fowler and Kristi Driscoll (West Chester Twp.); sophomores Carling Daniels (Fairfield Twp.) and Gabby West (Mason); and freshman Raeshaun Gaffney (Fairfield).
“I can’t wait,” West senior guard Tessa Elkins said. “I’ve been telling everyone to come. It’s going to be really exciting.
“I think it’d feel even better to win on the road. It will be a great game.”
Now, it’s your turn to share your thoughts on the game. Who will win, and why?

The Fairfield boys basketball team is still searching for its first Greater Miami Conference win after four tries.
But one could argue that the Indians opened conference play with a pretty tough schedule that started with Princeton (8-1), Colerain (6-2), Middletown (8-1) and Lakota West (4-3).
With the exception of Princeton all of those games have come down to the final moments and coach Kurt Etter has a young team that is just learning how rigorous the GMC can be.
“We’ve battled in all the games, but you have to do more than battle to win,” Etter said. “We’re young, but we’re working hard. That is five losses in a row and the last four have been down to one possession.”
Fairfield gets another shot at Oak Hills (3-5) on Friday night, January 9.
