Stirrup pants stir up fears — say it ain't so!

Do you think stirrups deserve a chance?

There is war. There is rumor of war. And then there are stirrup pants.

No matter how they come — jean form, leggings form or regular old cornea-burning pants form — stirrups are wrong.

We've heard rumors for the last few years that these horrid relics from days long gone — the '70s and '80s — were going to make a big comeback. Leggings and skinny jeans came back. Legwarmers came back. Bell bottoms are on the way back.

But as women fully grown, I refused to acknowledge even the possibility that we as a nation could ever again become gripped in the stirrup pants hairy hands. But apparently I was just ignoring what was in front of my face.

• Several big name labels like Marc Jacobs, Dolce and Gabbana and Max Mara have dabbled in stirrup pants the last few years.

• A few Skinny Minnie starlets and their posses have been spotted bopping around in stirrups.

• Last year, 7 for All Mankind sent fashion bloggers running for the ladies room when it came out with rather sickening stirrup jeans.

It didn't seem any of this matter to me here in little old Dayton, Ohio. Then it matter. Oh, how it mattered. I noticed that TJ Maxx, a store for pretty people trying to get the max for the minimum, showed stirrup pants in press material. I now realize that under my eyes, other nationally known stores have also secretly been peddling stirrups.

I was outraged, but not for myself. My concern was for America's children. Their skulls are not completely formed.

It seems they too will have to experience the hideousness that is seeing someone wear stirrup pants who definitely should not be wearing stirrup pants. (Note: no one should wear stirrups.)

If this stirrup thing takes off, the fattiness of legs will be magnified as every dip, bump and ruffle is exposed. Innocent minds will be corrupted. The stock market just might crash.

I leave you with this warning: beware of tent leg. Stirrups are neither sexy or cool. They are just crazy. Tucking you pants under your foot is a no-no unless you are going to ride a horse, are a gymnast or the star of the fictional show "1983 the Musical."

With any luck this will pass. But be warned: a scrunchies craze might be waiting in the wing.

I see nothing wrong with Stirrup Pants. I’ve worn them before and still do once in a while. I think they make my legs look good especially with high heels. I don’t follow fashion or put too much emphasis on the reactions of people whose reactions are not worth considering. So, to me Stirrup Pants are just fine.

Hey! Orange stirrups, black sports bra, & orange, black, pink, yellow puffy zip up jacket. Banana clip & mall bangs…On my way to a concert…I think BBD…You could not tell me I wasn’t hot stuff! I topped it off with black patten leather shoes (I have a pic I am sorry to say, that is why I remember so well!)

Anyone who wears stirrup pants should have their head examined. Seriously… How are stirrup pants considered fashion? Ridiculous….

I agree with the comment that the only thing they are good for is pulling them off, lol. They are hideous looking!

I has a pair of black-and-white kind-of tiger-striped stirrups that I loved. No one knew that I had cut off the stirrups and hemmed them and just hid them under my slouch socks. But the tunics are already back, if you don’t have a 13-year-old daughter you may have missed it. In nostalgia while buying her (AGH!) skinny jeans I tried on a pair. Not bad for a 35-year-old, but 1) my husband wouldn’t have let me out of the house and 2) I’m 35, not 13.

Do the Stirrups go under the shoe/boot or inside?

Yes!Yes!Yes! And while they’re at it, I hope they bring back those stone washed jeans with the waist with three buttons that came up just below our breasts, pleated in the front, baggy in the legs and so tight on the ankles we could barely get them over our feet! And let’s not forget the shoulder pads that looked like we were wearing a curtain rod or football pads from the 460 LB lineman! But again in 20 years we’re all gonna look back at what we wore today and say “what were we thinking!”

OMG!!!!!! Surely you MUST be joking! Anyone who brings that hideous “fashion” back should be shot twice! I didn’t like them when they were “in style” and I surely don’t like them now.

Well I’ll probably make my kids wear them just to see them suffer as I did. Perfect timming too because they were popular when I was in JH as my oldest is there now. I think we need the long tunic sweaters to go with and the big hoop earrings. LOL!!!!! At least now we are all old enough to wear what we want right?

The only thing stirrup pants are good for is tucking them into boots.

We don’t have to purchase them; we don’t have to wear them. Most of the blouses and dresses currently being peddled aren’t attractive either. I wear classics.
