Staff Report

Oxford police arrested a 20-year-old Oxford woman who was allegedly caught carrying and trying to hide a bottle of cinnamon schnapps in a parking lot.

An officer on foot patrol at the Park View Arms apartment complex on June 26 reportedly greeted two women who were also passing through the area. After passing the women, however, the officer reports he watched as Bethanie J. Hawkins, 5541 Stephenson Road, crouched near a parked car and set down what appeared to be a glass bottle.

The officer approached Hawkins, who had indeed attempted to conceal a half-empty bottle of Firewater brand cinnamon schnapps. Hawkins reportedly said the bottle was not hers, claiming she was only carrying it for a friend.

Police report Hawkins had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath, was exhibiting some slurred speech and was extremely argumentative. She was taken into custody and transported to the Oxford Police Department, where she was issued a citation for underage intoxication and released.

Information compiled from Oxford Police reports.
