Staff Report
A heavily-tattooed Oxford man was arrested June 25 as he pedaled along S.R. 73 on a stolen girls bicycle.
Jayson Bellamy, 27, 4 Ramsey Drive Apt. A, reportedly stole a bicycle from the intersection of Main and High streets by borrowing a hammer from a city employee. Police said the unnamed employee had been in the Uptown park when Bellamy approached and asked for a hammer to smash a bicycle lock.
The worker loaned Bellamy the hammer, thinking he was trying to access his own bike. Another city worker was later flagged down by Bellamy, who allegedly attempted to sell him the stolen bike.
Police eventually located Bellamy riding eastbound on S.R. 73, reportedly on his way to New Miami. Bellamy was arrested by Oxford Twp. police, charged with theft and taken to the Butler County Jail. Oxford Twp. police said Bellamy freely admitted to stealing the bicycle, claiming he took it because he had no other way of getting to his wife in New Miami.
