Bengals' Hall questionable for Redskins game

CINCINNATI —

Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Leon Hall missed his second practice in a row Friday and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game at Washington.

Head coach Marvin Lewis offered no hint whether Hall will be of service to a defense that ranks 30th of 32 NFL teams in yards allowed.

But Hall, minus his helmet, was on the field for walkthrough drills, which would seem to indicate the team is hopeful he will be able to go against a Redskins offense that ranks fourth in the league at 416 yards per game.

Jason Allen (thigh) practiced for the third consecutive day and likely will get the start if Hall is unable. Allen is listed as probable, as are defensive end Carlos Dunlap (knee) and Brandon Scott (hand), who were full go at practice this week.

“All three of those guys have had good work this week,” Lewis said. “That’s really what they all needed because they all hadn’t practiced much. It’s been almost seven weeks for Bernard, eight weeks almost, and six or seven for Carlos.”

Defensive end Robert Geathers (groin), guard Kevin Zeitler (hip) and safety Jeromy Miles (hip) also were full participants Friday and are listed as probable.

Kirkpatrick timetable: Lewis said he is encouraged by the progress rookie cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick is making but said he doesn’t expect the first-round pick to play until after the Oct. 28 bye week.

Kirkpatrick injured his knee prior to training camp and then suffered a setback after returning for the final camp practice Aug. 20.

“This was his first week of change of direction and stuff, and he really did well with it,” Lewis said. “It’s getting him excited. Maybe next week will be another step where he can do some things in practice.

“The worst part of this thing for Dre has been he hasn’t had an opportunity to practice football but really a week,” Lewis continued. “I think he really needs two or three weeks of football practice before he would ever be ready to get suited up and play.”

Brown bronzed: A statue of Bengals founder Paul Brown will be unveiled at 9:30 a.m. today at Miami University’s Cradle of Coaches Plaza.

Brown’s widow, Mary, will participate in the ceremony, but their son, Bengals president Mike Brown, won’t attend because he will be traveling to Washington for Sunday’s game against the Redskins.

Paul Brown played quarterback for Miami, going 14-3 in two years as the starter in 1927-28.

“My father was always proud of his ties to Miami, as a student and athlete and later as a trustee of the university,” Mike Brown said in a statement. “It always had a special place in his heart. It would have pleased him to be honored in this way, tied in to the tradition of Miami football.”
