Bengals' Dalton likely to start against Broncos, Lewis says

Wire Reports

CINCINNATI — Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said after Thursday’s practice that he expects Andy Dalton to be the quarterback for Sunday’s game at Denver, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer.

After being limited to doing only handoffs on Wednesday, Dalton resumed throwing on Thursday with short and medium routes, which looked like they had the usual velocity.

Offensive coordinator Jay Gruden said they didn’t challenge Dalton to air it out or throw it deep but that will happen today.

On the team’s official injury report he was listed as limited for the second straight day even though during the first 30 minutes he went through the normal routine. Dalton suffered the injury to his right wrist/forearm late in the first half of last Sunday’s 27-17 win over Cleveland after completing 10-of-15 passes for 81 yards and a touchdown.

Raiders: Suspended Oakland Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor had a hearing on his bid to overturn his five-game ban.

Pryor’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said it was a productive meeting and that he appreciated Commissioner Roger Goodell and the union taking time to hear from Pryor. Rosenhaus said he expected to get a ruling shortly.

Pryor did not attend the meeting in New York.

Pryor, the former Ohio State quarterback, was selected by the Raiders in the third round of the supplemental draft on Aug. 22. Goodell suspended him, however, for the season’s first five games for manipulating his eligibility for that draft.

Pryor originally said he would not contest the ban but changed his mind and filed the appeal through the union.

Under terms of the suspension, Pryor can’t practice or play until the week of Oct. 10.

Broncos: Tim Tebow said that while he’s honored his fans are cheering for him to take over as the Denver Broncos’ quarterback, he trusts his coach and will bide his time without complaint.

“Well, I guess I appreciate the support, you know, but we got people in charge here that we trust and (I) trust they’re going to do the right thing,” Tebow said.

A group of Tebow supporters have said they’d like to buy two billboards in downtown Denver urging coach John Fox to bench Kyle Orton in favor of the former Florida star.

Tebow said he’d rather they donate the $10,000 to his charitable foundation.

Browns: Defensive coordinator Dick Jauron said Cleveland’s cornerbacks will no longer huddle with the defense, an adjustment following Cincinnati’s quick-snap touchdown in the season opener.

Jauron accepted share of the blame for Sunday’s blunder, when the Browns were slow reacting and the Bengals hurried to the line, snapped the ball and threw a game-winning touchdown pass in the fourth quarter of a 27-17 win.

Jauron, who is in his 27th season as an NFL coach, said he had his head down and was looking at his call sheet when the Bengals snapped the ball.

Jauron called the gaffe “hugely disappointing to everybody.” He said the team will use hand signals going forward.
