BOWLING GREEN —

Another winnable game went the other way Wednesday night as the Miami University men’s basketball team inched closer to the 20-loss plateau.

The RedHawks had one field goal and missed all six of their free-throw attempts in the last eight minutes, dropping a 52-44 decision to host Bowling Green before a crowd of 1,589 at the Stroh Center.

“Not very good. Not good enough. That’s all I can tell you,” MU coach John Cooper said. “It was just tough to watch, absolutely tough to watch.”

Miami sank 6 of 30 field goals and managed only 13 points in the second half. The visitors led 31-24 at intermission.

Allen Roberts had 16 points and was the lone player in double digits for the RedHawks, who fell to 8-18 overall and 3-10 in the Mid-American Conference East Division. It was their 10th defeat in the last 11 games.

“We just had a lack of energy in the second half. I don’t know why,” said MU guard Quinten Rollins, who tossed in eight points. “It’s been like that the last couple games. At halftime, we have great energy. In the second half, we come out and have a little drag and that just gives them a spark, and then it’s just too late to get anything back.”

The Falcons (12-16, 6-7) held Miami scoreless for five-plus minutes to start the second half. The RedHawks still had a 42-40 lead after Will Felder’s dunk/stickback with 8:08 remaining, but their shooting touch took a vacation from there.

Jordon Crawford scored 19 points and A’uston Calhoun had nine for BGSU, which pounded MU on the boards 45-29.

“You’ve got to grind for 40 minutes, and this was a grind win,” Falcons coach Louis Orr said. “I give our guys credit for grinding. We’ll take the win and try to keep moving.”

Overall, Miami shot 33.3 percent from the floor and 40.0 percent (6 of 15) from the line. The RedHawks played without redshirt junior center Drew McGhee, who suffered a torn ACL in practice Monday and will miss the rest of the season.
