Winter weather advisory issued for Friday

For those missing traditional winter weather, this weekend may be to your liking.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Friday afternoon when rain is expected to turn to snow.

A winter weather advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Motorists are urged to be prepared for snow-covered roads and limited visibilities.

Forecasters call for 1 to 2 inches of snow in the Butler County area from early Friday afternoon through Saturday morning.

Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-30s through the day and hover around freezing when the snow begins, according to Myron Padgett, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Travel is likely to get hazardous after the sunset and temperatures drop. But roads may be slick for the afternoon commute.

“This is not a big, big storm,” Padgett said. “But it’s about the best we can do this winter.”

Cold temperatures will follow the snow for the weekend and will remain seasonal much of next week. By the end of the week temperatures are expected to climb into the low 40s.
