Staff report

OXFORD – Members of WMUB’s news team received seven awards from Public Radio News Directors Incorporated for on-air work in 2008.

WMUB won first place in spot news, soft feature, commentary, breaking news and best writing in Division C, which is classified as an organization with one or two full-time news staff. WMUB also won second place for best writing and spot news.

Awards include: Best Writing, second place, “Threshold Choir #2,” by Cheri Lawson; first place, “Fast Fungi,” by Tana Weingartner; Breaking News, first place, “Windstorm Aftermath,” by Tana Weingartner and Gary Scott; Commentary, first place, “Purple Haze,” by Jennie Kiffmeyer; Soft Feature, first place, “Threshold Choir #1,” by Cheri Lawson; Spot News, second place, “Palin in West Chester,” by Tana Weingartner; first place, “Student Protest,” by Gary Scott.

PRNDI is a non-profit professional association created to improve local news and information programming by serving public radio journalists.

WMUB has been managed by Cincinnati Public Radio since March 1.

The university reached an operating agreement with CPR following a two-year process of exploring options for the future of WMUB.

I would think it would be appropriate to point out that these awards were given at a time when CPR was not managing the station and that all of these winning employees are now unemployed by the Miami University WMUB. It is now managed by CPR since March 1, 2009.
