Plenty of local places to recycle Christmas trees

HAMILTON — So, the gifts are all open, and the tree is dropping its needles?
Don’t get the post-Christmas blues about that old Tannenbaum. In Butler
County, you can recycle your Christmas tree using several community
composting and chipping programs.
The trees will be turned into mulch to be used at area parks. In some areas,
such as Fairfield, residents can take the mulch to use at their own homes.
Area trash haulers can also remove trees at the curb for disposal with the
regular trash. Residents should remove all decorations before recycling or
disposing of a tree.
Local recycling and disposal services include:
- Hamilton — Curb collection for Christmas trees will be the first two
weeks in January. To schedule a pick-up, call (513) 785-7580 or visit
www.hamilton-city.org for more information.
- Fairfield — Waterworks Park on Groh Lane started accepting trees Sunday,
Dec. 27, and will continue taking them through Jan. 9. The city will
chip the tress to produce mulch for the city’s parks. Resident may
also keep mulch for use around their home if they bring their tree on
Jan. 9 between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. Call (513) 867-5348 or visit

- Monroe — The city will offer curbside pick up for residents every Friday
from Jan. 2 through Feb. 1. The city will use the trees for mulch. Call
(513) 727-8953 for more information.
- Oxford — The city will offer curbside pick-up for residents through Jan.
19. The city will pick the trees up on a daily basis for composting.

- West Chester Twp. — Through Jan. 15, residents can drop off trees at
Keehner Park located at 7211 Barrett Road (near the tennis courts). The
township will chip the trees for composting. Call (513) 759-7301 for
more information.
- Rumpke customers — Customers in Middletown, Trenton and elsewhere can
leave trees at the curb for pick-up with their trash. Customers can
contact Rumpke at (513) 742-2900 to see if Rumpke considers their tree a “large”
item needing a special pick up.
- CSI customers — Customers should contact CSI at (513) 771-4200 for a $10
ticket for tree collection.
- Mulch Plus — Mulch Plus, located at 2864 Cincinnati Dayton Road near
Middletown, will accept trees for composting from Butler County
residents weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call (513) 423-8723 for more
