OXFORD — The Oxford Chamber of Commerce honored Shademakers Nursery and Landscape as 2010 Business of the Year.

The award was announced during the annual dinner Friday, Jan. 28, at the Knolls of Oxford.

Shademakers, located at 7525 Fairfield Road, earned the award for its courteous, helpful and personal response to its customers; its unique inventory; and its loyalty to the goals of the chamber, announced James Robinson, who presented the award.

In 2010, Shademakers donated flowers and shrubs to the annual wine festival, working before and after the event to deliver truckloads of greens and flowers and collect them after the event, Robinson said. They also invited chamber members to their nursery for a Business After Hours holiday event.

Those attending the chamber dinner also heard from new President Scott Webb, who said 2010 was a good year for the organization. The chamber started sponsoring Miami athletic events, began a new travel program which will take 16 people to Ireland, had a successful wine festival and more.

In 2011, the chamber will hold the wine festival again on May 21, hopes to add more trips and intends to use the wealth of knowledge from the business community to improve the Locust Street business area.
