OXFORD — Mark Noll, Francis A. McAnaney professor of History at the University of Notre Dame, will address “The Bible and Slavery” at 8 p.m. March 20 in the Farmer School of Business Taylor Auditorium at Miami University.
This free lecture will look at the division between how northern and southern Christians applied the Scriptures to slavery and abolition, leading to the Civil War.
A free dessert banquet with the speaker will start at 6:30 p.m. in the east commons room of the Farmer School of Business.

Noll, a noted historian of Christianity in the western world, is author of “The Civil War as a Theological Crisis” and many other books.
He was named as one of the 25 most influential evangelicals in America by Time Magazine in 2005. Noll was awarded a National Humanities Medal by President George W. Bush in 2006.
The lecture, which is sponsored by the history department, is funded by the Edwin M. Yamauchi lectureship.
