OXFORD — City Council unanimously approved a three-year contract Tuesday, March 16, for 13 non-sworn police employees that offers no raises the first year.

The contract with the Fraternal Order of Police is retroactive to Jan. 1.

It calls for no raises in 2010, but the two sides will come together in September to talk about pay for 2011 and 2012.

The contract covers dispatchers, public safety assistants and a records specialist.

“We certainly appreciate the fact that the employees did not go for a wage increase this year,” Mayor Richard Keebler said. “That’s very important to our budget.”

Among other changes, the contract also ended a program giving bonuses for early notification of retirement, which was also stopped for other police employees last year.

Employees previously received a bonus of 7 percent of their last annual salary for telling the city they plan to retire 15 months early.
